charter price went WAY TOO HIGH, might need to switch, what do you have?

I got the same cr@p but now every January I call and ask for the retention department right away. It saves about 10 minutes or so in the phone with someone that can't do anything. At least they spean english!

yeah DirecTV looks awesome, but they told me I need a phone line for it

so now it looks like the ATT bundle might be the best, I still need to call charter and see what they can do

I dont want a stupid land line, I already pay almost 100 bucks a month for cell phones that work everywhere, why do I want a phone connected to the wall that only telemarketers call? haha...jk

for those of you with DishNetwork, what HD channels do you get? HD is more important than premiums to me

Only reason I have it is 911. Show location even is you cant talk

ummm.....911 can track your location on a cell phone as well. It's law e911 or something like that.

enhanced 911 for mobile devices allows for tracking. Federal law that requires your cell phone carrier be able to provide your location information in the event that you initiate a 911 call

yeah, I keep my GPS on my cell phone on too, IM not paranoid about "big brother" spying on me, I'd rather someone be able to find me if IM lost, etc

ANYWAYS

it looks like AT&T is now offered at my address, which it wasn't a few months ago, so that's cool

how do you find out if you're "on the edge" of DSL coverage and its slow?

I DO NOT have a land line!!! I have been using a cell phone for years and Direct Tv had no problem with that. They told me it may take a 1/2 second to load the menu when you hit the guide button----Holy cow, its an eternity!!! But I am so willing to pay the price. I do have charter cable internet only for online gaming and surfing the web for like 29.99 a month.

Go Direct TV!!!!!!

Thanks for motivating me, I checked my bill and I went back to $52. I just got off the phone with some guy in India and they dropped me back to $29.99 for 6 mos. THe number is 1-888-438-2427

d_icemand is correct. You don't need a land line for DirecTV. It's only used for some PPV functionality but you'll never notice. All program guide and software updates are done through the satellite.

DirecTV recently turned on a new satellite and launched dozens of HD channels in October - with more to come.

If you are an HD nut like I am then there is no other choice right now but DirecTV.

I also use ATT DSL.

do you have to have a separate land line for DSL or can you just buy DSL service from ATT without purchasing a phone service?

Always tell them you want your service cancelled effective 30 days from now. That not only give you a bit of leaway if you get someone who doesn't want to make you happy but will also give you a bit of false confidence. I have been with charter after dish and direct and I'd be suprised if anyone has a better deal. I have 3 boxes with 2 being HD and one of the HD boxes being an HD DVR, 5mb internet, all movie channels, HD service and phone.
It's all about getting the right person and getting what you want. Also, know what you're talking about. Find out what you COULD change to so you know what to tell them rather than simply rambling about being too much. Clark is right in that just cancel, however, use the above.

Yes and No. Tracking yes. Same as a landline. No

It is law but some providers do not provide E911 phase 2 information to dispatch centers because they are fighting over who pays for connection fees. On the other hand some counties or PSAPs "dispatch centers" are not equipped to receive the information. For example Saint Louis County can tell where you are, Saint Charles County nope.

Another issue to note if you want to be knowledgeable about it. Some wireless networks do not use network location base systems which then relies 100% on a GPS handset base application. Others have both or network base only. Good to know when debating on handset capabilities or a network provider if you are in the market for a new phone. This stuff save lives everyday and good for stumping a customer care rep probably. If only you could take your OnStar with you???

Call and complain, say you are going to switch, they will drop it back down.

Guaranteed. May also get a few movie channels thrown in for free. Every time my charter bill goes over 100 I call and they reduce it

This is what I did 2 years ago and I only pay 90 something for All movie channels with 2 boxes and Internet. However that is not HD, but that should not cost that much more.

i don't mind having landline phone cause i only like certain people bugging me on my cell phone, plus always had better luck with dsl and with att i get free norton antivirus sweet, norton firewall, norton antispy all free plus wireless router has built in firewall, never have had a virus once. My dish is great 1 box that has dual tuner and dvr for recording, eventually i'll upgrade to HD but hate to pay for something i won't use much cause i don't have time to watch tv, I got great service better price and good protection program through dish anything fails it gets replaced and has no questions ask.

I am in the same boat, but in Lake Saint Louis I can't find anyone to offer decent internet service other than charter. I am just buying time until I can get a better provider...my bill just jumped to 100 bucks for my basic internet and basic cable with one box!
