Ricordea Fever, you are the only one that's out of line here. I suggest you stop thinking that every little comment posted is a personal hit aimed directly at you and your business. They are not. What Phender was pointing out does have a lot of merit and it was well worth mentioning.
There is a lot of great info in this thread (Thanks Bonsai Nut) and I really don't want to have to end up closing it. However, I will if you continue with your totally unwarranted retaliations.

I'm not sure why you would report his last two posts. Are you nominating them for "most truthful posts of the week?" It's certainly not like he has said something wrong.
Now let's get back to the question of care for these critters. What exactly do you know or don't know about them? It would be great to hear care information directly from you since you know the collector.
I have asked specifically several times - where are they from? Can you be more specific than an ocean? What was the ocean temperature where they were collected?
You say you have a biologist that has been caring for / studying them. What exactly has this person been doing and what could they add to this discussion? Have they raised the temperature, and if so, to what level and how long? How have they defined that the anemones have thrived in higher temps? Have they split or reproduced in captivity? Have they grown?
Again, this is not to raise business questions - but simple care questions. Sicne you know most about these creatures, can you share more information?

BonsaiNut, Phender- Thank you both for standing up and asking the hard questions about these anemones. I feel that your persistance in asking for more details as well as your own research into their identity, has helped protect many of us newbies who might have jumped on these colorful little gems based on the misleading and apparently incorrect information the seller has provided.
Very shady situation if you ask me. Sounds like these nems either need a dedicated cold water tank or should be left alone.
I feel sorry for those that pay several hundred dollars for these nems most likely to watch them slowly die in tanks that are too warm.

Whats up Ali - I'll LYK how it turns out. I'm gonna stay out of the argument, I'm sure everyone who has said what they said has their reasons (business or otherwise). Mine gets in today and I'll keep you posted. I believe the person who bought the other blue has it, and I'm sure you'll see it in due time.
Don't feel sorry for me though - I've been at this over 15 years and knew the inherent risks. I do trust the vendor as we have several mutual "contacts". I know its not a vendor discussion thread but I mention that only because it was a determining factor in making the purchase. I knew from the getgo that it was a risk but since they're not imported en masse, I might as well take the risk. There are only a handful in the US, unlike the THOUSANDS of elegance corals and THOUSANDS of goniopora that 99% of will die. But both myself and the other buyer are well aware of the risks and from what I know of the other reefer - we like to try new stuff. Neither of us fall in the irresponsible category.
If the mods wanna shut this thread - I'm perfectly fine with it, and I'll start another one with some pix.

fliger, you'll love that little anemone when you get it. They are a different looking anemone, when I first saw them I thought it was so cool, that was half the reason I bought it. But before I bought one(around 6 months ago) I tried to find as much info on them as I could. All I could figure out was that I thought they were from the Chile/Peru area, I sent BonsaiNut a pm telling him that from my research, I found out that they were supposedly from the Chile area, I hope that helped BonsaiNut figure out what species it was, I was worried telling him that might make it even harder to identify it, but he was right on top of it. Anyway, they are so cool looking and mine moved itself into subdued lighting within a day and has stayed in thatr spot ever since(it's on the back wall of my tank, right behind a big pink birdnest and thus far I haven't had any problems with it stinging any of my corals, but I probably just jinxed myself and will wake up tomorrow morning to a bunch of dead acros). Anyway, I think you'll love that anemone, especially because you probably never see one in any other tank but your own. Well, good luck with it and please keep us updated, thanks

Actually, all credit goes to Dr. Daphne Fautin on this one. She thought she recognized the blue individual as a species that one of her colleagues would be familiar with. Dr. Vreni Häussermann is a South America temperate anemone guru and recognized all three of the species immediately. We were fortunate that she had written a field study paper on two of the three species - it is a perfect reference document for anyone wanting to provide great care. I am excited when she mentioned that they reproduce primarily via longitudinal fission. Assuming temp isn't an issue, I hope that they start to reproduce in captivity.
If you haven't already, check out her scientific paper (link listed above). There is a crazy photo of all of these blue anemones clustered all over a rock out of water at low tide
It is really striking.I know Rob and his store very well. He has good stock and works very hard to answer all questions. He just gets excited easy. Dont take eveything so personally. I have one red anemone from him. I dont really care about the name. Just aslong as it lives I have had mine for about 4 months. I do keep him at a little lower temps though around 74:
Kba, no one's going to shoot you. However, I think we've all agreed to move on from giving comments/criticisms/praises to the vendor and instead focus on the care and history of these anemones.

Yes, but this is a privately owned list and it has rules. If you keep posting regarding the vendor, the Moderators can and will shut this thread down. Nobody wants that. We would love to hear about how your anemone is doing. What and how often are you feeding it? Has it grown much since you have had it.
If you want to talk about a vendor, there is another forum for that, just like a person wanting to talk about SPS would be refered to the SPS forum. I don't think BonsaiNut was being rude, just trying to keep things on topic.
