Check out this tank

unfortunately there aren't too many 100k jobs floating aroung this area. That is the problem. Our local income is not too high becuase there is no tech type jobs around here. The area is being bought up by folks from San Francisco, L.A. and the Silicon Valley, leaving those who grew up around here to move out. it doesn't seem right.

This is the nature of the beast for people from Hawaii as well. Things there are just so expensive especially housing, but the jobs do not compensate for the difference. A lot of Japanese investors and other rich folks have driven the prices way too high so local folks like me prefer to live in the mainland and earn good money and have cheaper prices but forego our aina...our home. I earn a good living here and have 2 homes to my name. I go home at least once a year to visit...and catch up. IF I lived in Hawaii I would be like my brother and live in one of my parents homes since I would be hard pressed to buy my own. It's truely a sad tale.

here is a pic of the tank with the rock in it. I haven'y installed the lights yet so it is a little dark.

this is the back yard right outside of the living room. the yard goes out about 25 feet from the house and then there is a 20 foot cliff with a stone staircase. they are doing the landscaping now. There will also be a custom stone waterfall/spa craned over the house to the backyard next week. There is also a regular spa on the balcony of the master bedroom

this a pic down the staircase. This dolphin was ground into the cement and then the floors were stained. The tank is just to the left of the dolphin and the front door is just above the dolphin in the pic. The staircase is all african Mohagony.

So I have tested the water for the last couple weeks. I expected a bit of a cycle because there is a about half cured live rock and half "dry rock" which has some dry sponges and algae on it. I picked off what I could but there is usually a bit of rot and cycling with it. After one week there was only a little ammonia and nitrite. This week both tests came out fine. I have been skimming the whole time and some dark stuff has been coming out.

Next week I install the lights on top and the refugium lights as well as the Aquacontroller and the two seaswirls with the recirculating pump that they will be attached to. I will also be putting the first few fish and part of the clean up crew at this time.

The house is coming along nicely. Finishing touches are almost done.

I will post pics with lights and fish next week.

here are some updated pictures. I retested the water and added some fish and a four corals. I also installed the lights above the tank and above the sump/refugium. Now I just have to install the second pump with the two seaswirls and the Aquacontroller. Then just wait a while and start adding corals. Some people signed on the dotted line to buy the house while I was there so I met them and they really like the tank.

Sweeeeeet. That house is breathtaking. Why all the tonga branch? Not much room for corals in that puppy. Just curious. But you do great work.

I like the tonga branch because it allows an open structure. It will be mostly sps at the top part so you can still get plenty in thereby gluing frags down. Its not like lps where they need a good resting spot. There are actually tons of spots for corals. After all the tank is almost 12 feet long. I can't wait to get the clams in there. I have 4 waiting in a holding tank.
