Chemi-Clean--> does it work?

It has risks. Try everything first. Plus look at the threads on salt-water mollies.
 
I succeeded with chemiclean. I've dealt with one correspondent on line who had a tank crash after using it. My only problem was losing the majority of my copepods and having to restock WITH a mandarin in a 52g. We're now doing quite well, and there was a small recurrence, but it's abated. Using phosban seems to have some positive effect, possibly because it removes silicates. Travis, you might know the why-for on the latter.
 
I have been using Chemi Clean for years and haven't noticed anything negative about it. I even wrote to the company that makes it to tell them it is the first aquarium product I found that does what it is supposed to.

The "Mollies thing" is that Chemi Clean eliminates (temporarilly) cyanobacteria and some people feel that mollies will eat it so you can use those instead of Chemi Clean
 
It's worked for me before. Some people will scream don't use it because you'll kill everything but it worked well in my tank. The main thing is, remove as much as possible to begin with. Once everything dies, try to remove most of what's left and try to keep your oxygen level high. You have to turn off your skimmer and take out the carbon while dosing it though.
 
A few weeks ago I used it and it works, just follow the instructions. Mollies did not eat cyano in my tank and they only lasted couple of months.
 
I've had mollies in my reefs for about a year. Of course, their deaths have been untimely (carpet surfing, needlewheel pump rides, etc). The one that I have right now eats Dinoflagellates like it's going out of style.
 
You can use mollies, scats, algae bleenies, snails, crabs, sea hares, tangs and grenades but they will not "cure" an algae problem and none of them will eat much red cyanobacteria if at all. Chemi Clean works fine. If your animals die after Chemi Clean, they were going to die anyway. If it did not kill any of my animals in two decades then it will not kill yours.
Sometimes we need a little help because our little tanks are not really mini oceans even though we think they are.

I had great success with chemiclean. 10 months ago and not a sign of cyano since. I didn't notice a single negative effect on my tank.
 
I battled using "natural methods" for about eight months. Water changes, sucking out the stuff, phosban, pura lock, refugium etc.. Finally used the chemi clean products, and within three days I was clean. I have not had a reocurrence and now have a refugium and run Pura lock. I think my system was just out of balance ant the chemi clean gave me the head start I needed. You will find instances on rc where it did harm but for me it worked perfectly. Brought the joy back to reefing
 
I just decided to go ahead and give chemiclean a whirl on my 29g this evening. I've been battling a bad case of red slime/cyano for over two weeks now. Its all over my LR, glass, gravel, powerheads, everything except the fish and corals! Anyway, I added it tonight at about 7pm and I'll update you all in a couple of days with the results.
 
Make sure to oxygenate the water with an air pump, I've used it on ocassion with positive results. One thing that I have learned about the bacteria is- to prevent further outbreaks, use more water movement to stir the "deadspots" in your tank. Good Luck! T
 
Be sure to turn off your skimmer (if you have one) when using Chemi-Clean. If you don't, it will foam up like you put dish soap in the water. Before you turn it back on, be sure to do a water change, then when you do turn it back on, sit and watch it for an hour before you trust it. It typically works as advertised, just beware of the skimmer issues.
 
Ive used it in the past with no ill results also.

I think as people mentioned when people had their tanks crash or fish die it was from oxygen depletion. Being you have to turn off the skimmer just be sure to have plenty of pumps running for 02 as mentioned.

I don't like the idea of dosing the entire tank with antibiotics, erythromycin in this case, but it worked for me when I tried it. Be sure to keep the oxygen up.
 
So you guys would suggest to have an air pump running on the tank while using Chemi Clean?

Or say for example, have one of my maxi jet 1200s turning over the surface water of my tank? rippling effect, etc...?

Doesnt my water circulating through my overflow supplement my water with a lot or a high percentage of water?
