Chinese LED Lights

Where you can buy Evergrow fixtures direct from China?

I'd be more than willing to forgo Reefbreeders' US warranty, if there were a significant savings to be had.

(sorry if this has been asked, I admit I didn't read the whole thread!)

There is no significant savings to be had. EG and RB prices are very much in line. In fact, RB may be discounting EG fixtures more than EG in the last month or so. I see RB is selling the Photon32 for $449. Back in Dec EG was selling them for $499 and that was back when RB was just getting started with EG. I did a group buy with EG before they standardized the group buy pricing. Back then, the more you bought the better the deal. We bought $5400 worth of fixtures and got really good prices... better than they're offering now on their 12 units or more group buy program. I suspect there will be more distributors for EG and EG made but private labled (like RB) fixtures because they are making a quality product, they are doing customer service and being very price competitive.

Thanks for the info, Ron!

I was hoping for a different answer - not for the savings, really, but because I'm a little put off by the RB's lack of communication skills. When you contact a company with your finger on the 'buy' button and get no response, it makes you wonder how quickly they respond to warranty issues!

Yep. Your right. Why did I post that. .?. But on the layout question the site does not show the latest layout which some have referred to with 90 and 120 degree. Use both red and green.

if there is a new RB standard layout then ask logan for it but most will take what's available and customize to their taste. if you want 120° optics or none at all for even wider coverage on 660nm and 520nm LEDs, then by all means modify accordingly. if you want 520nm incorporated, then do that. it's all customizable.

how high did you hang your led and how much power did you turn on?? don't know why i keep bleach out the birdnest coral
This is from a led diy i recently did. It consist of three icecap aluminum heat sinks and a few pieces of aluminum angle from lowes. I used 54 Chinese led's and drivers with no optics, thought I would show some sps growth.

chicago, we aren't able to help or tell you if a layout is worthwhile without information about what setup it is going on, what your goals are, what light output spectrum you are aiming for, size of tank, how many fixtures, etc.

looking for 14k look. over sps dominated tank. tank is 31 deep. it is 96 x 31 x 31. i will need a number of the units.. but want to try one first to see.

what do you think about this layout

90 degree optics and 120.. 120 are the dotted red lines.

You might consider this comment from EverGrow in China on one of our GB layouts. "Kind suggestion: your layout will show a little Pink, ( 400nm and 420nm and red will show that). " One of the things people complain about but not much has been reported identifying the reason for the pink or purple look - this might be one contributing factor. Also I have used both 630 and 660 Reds and have switched to all 660's as 630's appear to produce more disco. And I would remove the optics form all Red & Green LEDs and buy a few extras in case you want to install them later. Not sure what your starting layout was but I suggest you use RB full spectrum and tweak it based on Logan's advice to get the look you want. Also, try to see one in person as it will influence your layout more then you would think. I am on my fourth fixture order and still tweaking the layout even thought I thought my first layout was perfect, but it wasn't even close as I envisioned it's look and reality over the tank.

ok.. now im really confused..
so hear we go..
1. is there a link to RB layout suggestions
2. use 660 NOT 630
3. as for white leds? what K?
4. ok no optics on the red and greens..

will see what the RB full spectrum is ..

ok.. no greens correct ..
correct, there are no greens in that layout. whether or not you decide to use them is up to you. there are myriad ways to get the lighting right over your tank with these fixtures so don't go hunting for a specific answer. a lot of it will have to do with your own personal aesthetic choices hence why eztimes and some others suggest visiting folks that have these fixtures or the wavelength or LEDs you are looking at to help your decision. or you can just buy a few of whatever LEDs you are interested in trying and swap them around when you have your own fixture.

installed some 90 degree optics

installed some 90 degree optics

I just recieved my D120 with 90degree leds and have been using it over a 20L for a month. i installed some 90 degree optics even though the leds are 90 degree to reduce the spillage(so i can look in the tank without getting blinded). i run the blues at 80% and the whites at 40-50%. i had a couple small frags on monti bleach but most had already been under a 250w halided only 6" above the water. I am getting some awesome colors and great growth. plus i have noticed the couple of small spots of hair algea i had have slowed down growth wise compared to the halide. so far im digin the fixture. wish i had a par meter.

Hey, that sounds great. I would love to do the same. Where can you find 90 degree optics to add? Is it a big job? I have replaced the fans already and am comfortable inside the case.

I installed my new IT-2060 this week. Nothing but good things to say about it! User-friendly touch-screen controller and remote control, great color, quality hanging hardware. Instructions are a little shaky, as is typical with Chinese stuff, but the menu is intuitive enough even I was able to figure out the controller without much effort.

I did a quick PAR test with the fixture at 100% power and a foot above the water, with 90 degree optics. I get 800 PAR an inch below the surface, 450 at the sandbed, which is 13" down in this tank. (By comparison, my TEK T5 gets about 500 at the surface and 250 at 13" depth). With both channels turned down to 15%, I'm still getting 125 on the sandbed.
