Chinese LED Lights

Give it a try and see if you like it. I have a 48 and took the 90 s off one side only and put it on my tank to see if there was difference. I noticed no difference, but that's just me. Have you tried raising the light? If you diced to take the optics off, there is a YouTube video that shows how and it's very easy.

I saw a video on how to take the optics off; looks pretty easy. I can't raise the lights as I installed them in a hood that sets on top of the aquarium. I am happy with the way that turned out.

I hear ya, mine is laying right on top of my glass tops with no issues. I really think the light mat need to be higher to notice a difference of optics.

d120 just arrived. Holy crap it's bright!

See, this is the part I don't understand. Why in the heck would you put just two red and two green like that WITH optics. You won't get a nice even spread and blend with a configuration like that. Radion Pros are similar. You can't blend your colours etc nicely doing that so what's the point?

What I found helpful was stirring up the debris in the tank then standing back in a dark room and looking at it. You can actually see the cone of light from each led reflecting off the suspended particles. Gives you a good idea of where things really start to blend. There is some trigonometry you can do as we'll to calculate , the spread at distance, but I never had any success.

So I removed the lenses from the interior optics. much better spread of light throughout the tank. Ramped up the power a little to compensate for the spreading of the light.

My D120 stopped working today. Well, half of it anyway. I made a short video of how it is behaving. In the video I am rocking the power switch on and off a few times (that's the clicking noise you'll hear).

Anybody have any ideas on what is wrong? It's under warranty (for a few more days!) but I'm betting I have to fix it myself.

just swap out the driver. takes less than 5 minutes - good to go.

I don't think it's the driver. I took it apart and both drivers will power the blue LEDs, but not the whites. I also tested continuity between the wires and the first contact on the LEDs for both banks and there is continuity as far as I can test it so the wiring seems good. Now what? It must be something in the LEDs themselves or the "PCB" right?

ok,So i'm guessing this light will get slated for not having a dimmer but they are sooooo much cheaper than anything else i can find. i have a 48" tank and just 2xT5's at the moment and am looking at changing up my lights with the view to starting on corals. these lights look good asthetically to me but from a technical point or view what do you guys think

Pros and/or Cons to my thoughts re: lighting.

I have reefbreeder LEDs over my 90 gallon. Obviously too much light at 100% blue/100%white. I have read almost every entry posted over the last 90 days. The consensus seems to recommend percentages less than 100% on both channels.

My ? is this: During the six hour major photo period, what if I set the blue channel at 100% and, using a PAR meter, increase the white channel until I reach my desired PAR levels? It seems I would be maximizing the blue to white ratio.

All comments are welcome.

Hi,
I just got my photon 48 and would like for the color to be more on the blue side.
I was thinking of swapping out half of the whites with RBs. I'm hoping to get the color I want and have the two channels at the same intensity. What are your thoughts on this.
Thanks,
Vic

This sounds more like a freshwater light. Most people here are running 2:1 ratio of blue to white, some 3:1, yet your light would have a 3:1 white to blue ratio which is certainly not adequate for corals.

Can you provide a link where it says you'd need 2:1 blue to white for corals to thrive? And also how blue is 14k white led?

There's no need for that link. that lighting with more whites then blue are simply not enough for corals, try it out if you don't believe it. your corals will look horrible.

I would try to adjust the intensities of each channel. Run your blues at a higher %age than the whites. This would accomplish your desire to have the color more on the blue side w/out swapping out leds.
