Chinese LED Lights

Does anyone have a preferred layout for the d120

I did a custom layout for mine and they were 2.5:1 blue to white ratio and now I wish I had gone at least 3:1 if not more. I think the ideal set up would be one that is just a 10K color temp with both channels at 100% (or any equal power level). I run my white channel at half of what my blue channel is and adding more white doesn't really change the color in the tank.

Whites, reds, greens, and UV purple are on one knob. And blues are on the other. Pretty standard really..

Well, seeing as how were still in the experimental stage of what greens and reds can/will do, I thought they would have their own knobs...........for now.

It's not a 'what we want to do' issue, it's a 'design and cost' issue. To have reds and greens on their own channel would mean a different driver for the white channel and a separate driver for the red & green channel. That would cost more than it's probably worth to most buyers.

IMHO, red and green leds probably aren't of much value in a fixture that is 1:1 or even 2:1 blue to white, as most are at this point. You will probably get all the red spectrum the zooxanthellae need from the white leds. If you get to a 3:1 or higher blue to white ratio, maybe having red leds could be of value. And the greens are added to mix with the reds and blues to look white to our eyes. The zooxanthellae still 'see' the red, green and blue spectrum as they don't have our eyes. If I were doing a new layout I'd do 1 green and surround it with 2 reds and 2 blues. That should look white to us and minimize the green spectrum in the tank. Green and yellow just add to nuisance algae and cyano bacteria growth.

From the article linked to below is this quote: "In the case of Red Slime Cyanobacteria, these Cyanobacteria do not use the PAR spikes at 465nm and 675nm and instead utilize more of the middle yellow and green light spectrum "

Here is a good artical that covers a lot about light and light fixtures:

Here's my first issue with the IT2080...
I have it set the system on a 12 hours cycle, going off at 11pm. Except it doesn't go off, it switches to a "moon light level" although the 2 channels is showing "0" for light intensity.
Between 11pm and 11am every hour is set to 0 (no lights)
Day before yesterday it turned off after the photo period I set like it should but last night it again switches to a "moon light level" when it should have gone off.

@Ronreefman, I think I will add the color leds in later. my current light will come with 28 blue 460nm: 14pcs white 12000k+13pcs blue 460nm. What do you think ?

So do the whites still stay on during the moon light level or is it just the blues mammy?

Took a chance on this led light from Ledzeal. It was mentioned by another member on this thread and after multiple questions with China I was convinced. The unit itself comes in 24, 36, 48, and 60 inches. It's made up of clusters of 24 3watt leds. A 24 inch has two cluters and a 36 has three and so on. Mine is 48 inches and has 96 Bridgelux leds. Total power is almost 300 watts. Each cluster can be controlled independently or all four together. There are four channels and six modes. In the DIY mode you can customize your own power settings. You can do increments as little as 1% but you only have eight settings within a 24 hour period. It also has the fancy features which I don't use, Flash, Cloud, and Sunrise. There is also a manual mode to set a fixed setting for each channel.

The unit looks modern and sleek and well constructed. It does come with a power supply that is a stand alone. The controller comes in hard wired or wifi. Wifi is $50 more.

The led layout and spectrum is fully customizable. I took Ron Reefman's advise and chose a 2.5:1 ratio on the blue to white: However, I did get one red and one green led on each cluster. I did it more for color. For color growth there are plenty of blues which I chose two kinds, 450nm and 460nm. I also have UV and 12000k. The customized break down for each cluster is as follows, Ch: #1 six blues, two 450 and four 460. Ch:#2 six 12000k. Ch:#3 four 450 and two UV and Ch: #4 four 460, one red, and one green.

I'm very satisfied so far. It's been only a few days but first impression is good. As far as par, no idea cause I don't have par meter. According to manufacture on a 24" deep tank, par should be around 200 at 100%. All I know is that I had DIY Bridgelux leds prior to this unit and this is way more powerful. I still have my T-5's running next to it while in the transition period. No channel is higher than 50% until all corals are acclimated. Eventually I should be able to remove the T-5's and use just the led unit.

Total cost for the fixture was $450. That includes customized layout and spectrum, hard wired controller, remote, and shipped to my door. I got a break in shipping because I ordered two other units for my friend. If you order two or more you save $40. I believe that this unit in the USA is worth way more than what I paid for it. Here are some pictures.

Hello Gillguy

Congratulations for your recent purchase! Do you believe it would be enough for a tank with 74x26x26?
It would be appreciated if you could tell me where you buy it from? Do you know if they ship to Brazil?

Thanks

well here is my question? I also have a fixture photon 24. and have it over my 60 cube will my corals grow well with these leds. I am yet to see a difference. and to be honest I really want to have faith in them just I don't yet

Have patience. The corals may take sometime adjusting to the new spectrum of light. Once they have adapted your corals should do just fine.

Cazzo, you would need two of the 60 inch units. Place them side by side and they can be controlled with one controller.

I have two d120s... I love them but find them a little too white. I would like to swap out some whites for more blues... is this an easy do, anyone have simple instructions? Thanks all

so the potentiometers don't provide enough adjustment for you?

nonetheless, yes it is easy to do with a simple soldering iron and your replacement LEDs.

here's a quick DIY from a local reefer buddy of mine who did the change. it's very straight forward and you can get away without using any additional solder if careful.

d120 just arrived. Holy crap it's bright!

Update, guys?

I have recently purchased a Reefbreeder Photon 16 and a Photon 24. I installed them in a hood. The 90 degree lenses seem to emit a rather narrow spread of light. I am thinking of removing the lenses on all interior lenses. I understand this would give me 120 degree spread on each of these lenses.

Would you suggest I do or discourage me from doing this?

Give it a try and see if you like it. I have a 48 and took the 90 s off one side only and put it on my tank to see if there was difference. I noticed no difference, but that's just me. Have you tried raising the light? If you diced to take the optics off, there is a YouTube video that shows how and it's very easy.
