Chinese LED Lights

Unless Evergrow changed it I think their led's are 90 standard not 120.

On the IT series of lights EG has made the 90 degree lenses 'standard' it's not the led that is 90 degrees. And the D120 is still standard WITHOUT lenses. We are paying $9 extra for any D120 with lenses. Bridgelux leds are still Bridgelux leds. I think, but I'm not 100% sure, that all basic leds are 120 degrees. Yes? No? How about it bhazard451?

The IT series does come with only 90 degree chips instead of the 120's. So you would not need optics but I would guess it has to improve the performance w/optics by concentrating the beams equally..(-- just guessing on that. Optics are pretty easy to alter though if need be. And cheap.. At least on the D120 lol.

Evergrow told me about the 90 degree chips when contacting them about the IT series.I could have misunderstood them though that would be really easy to do LOL.

Personally I would only add reds with greens or just go with a lower kelvin white.

Ok so I was at a friends house who has stunner strips over a 220g and it lights the whole tank up awesome (as a morning and night light) but there is a combo if red and blue. Can you or anyone tell me if the lower red nm would be close the the magenta pinkish that's used in stunner strips.

Here is all the LEDs evergrow has. I was wondering if anyone had played with the lower nem reds or orange or anything other than white, blue, rb, and violet

I have to order my 2 IT2080 this week and I do not know which optics to take 90° or 120° ?Problem is the size of my tank:65"X29"X24"
90° will light the bottom OK but the front and back?
120° will light the front and back ok but the bottom?
When I look at the Razor maxspect there or 90° optics and the orphek nilus have 120° optics.
So not easy to decide?
Who has experience with 90° or 120° with same size of tank?

Kind regards

Frank

really good info, I however don't know if I am more confused or less confused!

I just ordered a new tank and am looking for lights, was thinking LEDs but not quite sure after reading this! I definately can't afford to light this with USA made LEDs.

Glass Tank 72x18x23 (125) No Canopy, open look. Would have to hang somehow.

I won't do MH as I live in the desert (Palm Springs) and it is already hot enough here, so my alternative is LED or T5.

My question is what would I need to light this tank for the best coral (zoas, polyps, anenomes, fish mainly easy-moderate) and would would I need to start/get by for now. I don't want to break the bank here.

The optics/colors somewhat confuse me as a lot of people have differing opinions.

I am thinking reefbreeders...but am open....

The lighting is one of the last things I need to complete my tank,.

My ideal answer would be;....

This is best "insert answer here(Optics, etc)" or
This would get you by for now till you are ready to add another 1 or two.

I know its asking a lot, but I am confused, maybe I should just go t5

you cant go wrong with reefbredders, allthough for a 72 inch tank i would reccomend atleast 3 units with 120 degree optics or atleast 4 with 90 degree optics, but 23 inches is not to deep for 120 degrees. do you know what 20k,16k and 10k looks are? you base led selectio off those looks but reefbreeders comes with a standard pre determined look, but im not sure what K it is

I am aware yes, and thank you for your response. If i did 3 units at 120, I could always add more later? or change optics? so 3 of the 120's from reefbreeders should be good enough for now?

I am planning on 3 d120 over my 125. With 90 degree optics they will cover a 2x2 ft area unless I'm mistaken. I would go to your lfs or find someone running led before you buy them it is definitely a little different look. I saw 2 vegas this weekend and they are definitely very bright but the colors didn't mix very well.

Nice, I am new to the area where I live, so I dont really know anyone with tanks, and there is only 1 LFS here, and it is where I ordered my tank, the owner was trying to talk me out of LEDs, but I am almost certain it is because he does not have a distributer for them, or doesn't make as much money off of them, he was trying to sell me a 750$ T5HO. My friend in PA has a led setup, ill have him send me some pics. From all of the youtube videos, and pictures I have seen I prefer the LED look, I had MH's on my last system before my move. I am planning on giving 3 D120's a go. Will most likely do 90 degree optics as well, do you plan on ordering from reefbreeders? are you going to customize a setup?

evergrow on aliexpress has for 180$ customized, and i think the reefbreeders has a look of about 14k, and is full spectrum. Or if you learn a little bit more on LED lights you can customize which is what im doing. and yes definently you can add on, so i say go ahead pick up 3, see how they do, and if you need any more light it would be to just add one more, but you really shouldnt with no optics or 120 degree optics, these are said to light a 36 inch tank with a lil shadows on the edge but fully light a 24 by 24. 3 should be perfect!

Updated layout, i took out a few of the UV as they tend to burn out? does that happen with violet as well? i added more of those,
Please critique me on my layout!! :lol2:

Anybody here swap out any of the LED's in their fixture for different spectrums? If so, how easy is this to to? Thinking of swapping some cool whites in mine for some neutral whites/blues.

Interested to here on this to as I am ordering my lights this coming Friday. I am going safe and get a more bluer than white as I like blue look over to much white. So gonna order extra LEDs cause at 50 cents why not just incase you have a burn out.

Incredibly easy if you use Evergrow/Reefbreeders fixtures. YMMV if you have another brand of fixture. Twilight leds were not changeable when I tried it.

You just de-solder the led from the board, and solder the new led in its place. It must be a bridgelux/epistar type led with the same form factor though. You can't just solder a Cree led in there.

Having this flexibility is a very nice feature. With many fixtures (outside of AI) you get what you get, and can't make changes to fit a look that you'd like. Pucks like AI does are also expensive, compared to just changing a few leds.
