I find it interesting they call out 447nm blue. It's hard enough to keep leds in a 10-20nm spread. A 410nm violet can be almost anywhere from 400nm to 420nm. So a 447nm is a bit hard to believe. It's possible, but it's also expensive. So I count that against their credibility.

If it were me, and you realize I know next to nothing about this fixture, I'd replace all 3 greens and the center red with 447 blues and the 2 outside reds with 460 blue. That might just be enough. If I wanted more I'd pull 1 white out of each group. I'd make it ones that are furthest away from the 460nm in the center of each group and replace it with an additional 460nm. That's off the top of my head. Maybe some other people will have other ideas (I hope).

How about this layout. I took your advise and removed all the red and greens but just to keep the clusters uniformed I replaced all reds with 460nm. This layout would give me 2:1 ratio. To make it 3:1, I would have to change out some whites like you suggested but I also like to keep all white leds together in order to be able to control them on the same channel without any other color. Thank you for your input and I'm also curious what others think.

That should work OK. You have enough white so you don't need the reds & greens. And you have a good mix of blues, which I think is good. If they have other white leds, you might swap a few cool whites for neutral whites just to have a bit of variety of spectrum. And having some all blue leds on the white channel isn't really an issue. The corals will get the blue and your eyes really won't see it at all. It doesn't take much white to completely over run the blue as far as our eyes are concerned. They corals 'see' things differently and they can use it. But you should be OK either way, IMHO.

This question is kinda like closing the barn door after the horse has run away but . . . .. I just purchased (and received) the Photon 16 from Reef Breeders. I ordered the 90 degree lenses (no custom ordering).

My question is this: do the moonlights and the red leds have 120 degree lenses even tho' I selected 90 degree lenses.

I am ready to order a second fixture from them and would like to know the answer before I do. Depending upon the answer, I may want to order a few 120 lenses in case I want to swap them out later.

I have a 200 gal tank 72L x 30W x 22H containing mature SPS and LPS colonies. I currently have a Photon fixture with 4 x 14000k 250w MH and 12 x 36" T5's (4 actininic/4 x 50:50/4 x fuji). Aquacontroller 3 running the lights in sequence: actinic then 50:50/fuji, then each MH.

What fixtures, LED color combo, lenses and spacing are recommended? Will I need to supplement with T5's to avoid spotlighting? I am more concerned about maintaining the growth and health of my colonies than fancy timer or programming options.

Your experience and input is appreciated.

I've never seen an EverGrow lable on anything, even lights ordered direct from EverGrow?

I had almost the same set up that you have now. I had 4 250w MH and 160w of t5 over a 180g lps & sps tank. Back in December I switched to EverGrow IT2080 with a 3:1 blue to white ration and a few red and UV tossed in. My corals didn't even know I changed the lights. Coral growth is at least as good as it was and the colors are even better. There are at least a couple of EverGrow distributors here in the US.

I currently run my lights at 80% blue and 45% white. Would I be good to turn the whites down?...This only matters for a little while as I just ordered two photon 24's, but I will be using one on my frag tank and I have always wondered about this.

Ron.. does your water look a little too much blue.. its weird but my tank seems like sometimes the water is hazy.. cant really explain it.. it think the blue is hitting the particlas in the water a certain way?

Most likely. Run the whites only as high as you need them to make your tank as white as you want and don't add anymore white after that. With a 1:1 ratio, I would think if your blues are at 80%, your tank should be white when the whites are a less than 45%?

If I make my tank blue, it looks like crystal clear windex, no haze. It may be you have something in the water that scatters the blue spectrum? How do you filter your water? I use filter socks, a skimmer, chaeto and a DSB. No carbon or GFO.

Got it! Thanks for clearing that up. I was told that EverGrow doesn't want their name on their products. They sell way more grow lights for greenhouses and nurseries than they sell in our market and they all sell through other companies with other people's brand names on them. EverGrow doesn't want to compete with their own customers/resellers!

I have 2 IT2080 fixtures in a canopy and the cases are barely warm to the touch.

I switched from mh & t5 to leds about 9 months ago. I had 1000W of mh and 160W of t5 over my 180g tank. I also had mh and t5 over 3 smaller tanks. I switched all 4 to led only. My total lighting lighting was close to 2000W, now it is 1440W if all the led fixtures were running at 100%, which they never do. I figure it's really about 800-900W given I run 50% or less on white leds and 75% or less on blue leds. So I'm saving 1000W an hour for 8-10 hours a day. Plus my 2 chillers now run about 10-20% of what they did with the MH. And my home A/C runs less as well. Our May, June & July electric bills have been down $40, $30 and $50 over last year and the cost of electricity has gone up a bit and all 3 months were hotter on average (according to NOAA). That's a big deal to me. Oh, and I think my corals look much better. I change the color of my tank from dawn to midday and back again from midday to dusk. I love the ability to do that. And after 9 months I can guarantee you that even my sps corals are growing just as well, if not better, than they did with MH & t5.
