Choati Wrasse success?

they will never die of internal parasites in the wild.

with 100% constant feeding as and when they like, they are able to sustain both parasite and themselves. also, they are stress free in the wild so their immunity is fantastic.

in our home aquaria, the stress and the inconsistant feeding will spell trouble for the fish.

i believe that for sure . what puzzles me on that note is that i work 1/2 mile from home and when i get them in i come home 5 to 8 times a day and feed them . they eat every time with gusto and amazingly die fat and happy looking .
this is what makes me lean twards the alk swing thing as there is really something minor that they just cant handle at all . you have to understand that when i get them im home taking care of them more than at work trying to feed and fret over them 100% . i even have covered my entire tank in bark blue towels to alleviate and external stress and give them the "look" of the ocean . i have had more than a dozen of them and you would think that i would get lucky one time . these guys have me pounding my head on the wall and every time i come up with snake eyes .
i can keep red tail tamarins ,yellow chest tamarins ,blue spot tamarins ,and all other leopards which are so very difficult if you dont have everything right .i do understand that they are very poor shippers but i think there is a piece of this puzzle that is being overlooked or missed . its comical ,if you only knew how hard i have tried to keep these guys and i can keep anything else but them .~~~~some day some way i guess?

hmm..

dying with a fat belly doesn't sound like internal parasites. you are right. it could be something else.

but then again sometimes the overall cumulative stress effect of being captured, shipping,etc, perhaps it is just too much for them? I have had some fishes that just die for no reason after feeding for awhile too.

i too would like to know.

We'll after 6 days of having the Choati's both have died. :sad2: No idea why. They both were healthy and eating a few hours before I found the first one laying on its side deperatly gasping for air. about an hour later the other came out of the sand laying on its side deperatly gasping. I checked all parameters and everything was in check. All other fish and corals are doing fine. I had a 14day guarantee on these fish and have opted to try one more and get my money back on the other. If this one doesent make it I will never attempted these fish again. I have or have had about every rare wrasse in this trade and never had a problem keeping them alive. I'am now truly baffled. You can now chalk me up on the list of people who have failed at keeping these fish alive. Fricken wierd...

They are very sensitive to Ph swings. So if you employ a dosing scheme that involves Ph swings, you need to rethink keeping these fish. Also, they are highly sensitive to aggressive fish. Again, if you make it for a month, you will be in great shape. I had a pair for about a year and a half, but they perished because I had someone using aiptasia-x to kill aiptasia and that changed the Ph sufficiently to cause them to perish. Kevin Kohen has his for much longer than I.

sorry for your loss Patrick ,thanks for your input steve as i have been collecting pieces and parts to auto dose throughout the day . just need to figure it all out now .lol .
