Stand height is still something I'm debating on. We have 9 foot ceilings in the tank addition, and I was thinking of going around four feet ( I am 6'2" by the way), but I do understand what you are saying about presentation and seeing the acros from the top down. I do like the look of a taller tank that is over my sight line as well though. Our stand on our cube now is 40" and the tank is 30", so this setup will be significantly taller
I know reefski's tank is actually nearly on the ground and gives an entirely different effect. I'm adding a look down lagoon that is going to be similar in dimensions to the tank and lit almost entirely by sunlight to get that effect.
Either way cleaning will be a pita, there is no way around making a 36" deep tank easy to clean, no sand bed, high flow and a good magnet are about as good as you can get on that front. Either that or a snorkle mask.
For stand design I'm still up in the air, about a traditional welded stand or the concrete block/ I beam stand.
I prefer minimal bracing and like the look of large diameter steel tube, ie 4" or 6" and could get away with less verticals using this large diameter steel.
The concrete and I beam stand would also allow me to have a much bigger span in the center unobstructed and cost would be substantially lower.
My designs have changed from having all the equipment in the basement fishroom to incorporating everything into the addition which substantially limits the space I once had. Blame crystal for that one. The benefits however are that it will be much easier to manage humidity and cooling/heating with everything, out of the house.
