Clarion Angel experience?

Gresham, which of the Revillagigedo Islands do they collect them from? I notice Clarion Island itself is quite a bit further from the mainland.

Guys,

One of the local stores here says they can still get the Clarions... I spoke with the owner yesterday and he said the his distributor clams to still have juvis in stock for sale. .. PM my if you would like his contact info

i went to a somewhat local fish store here in east hanover nj. they had 3 clarions and till then i didn't even know of this fish.

after researching on the web i came across this thread.

i must say there were pretty amazing looking. the store had 3 all of which were labeled as sold. they were in tiny tanks which seems odd considering they are so much money. why not put them in bigger tanks to minimize stress?

at any rate, they are very appealing. i wonder how the regal angels look compared to these guys.

So Triggerfish - did you end up getting a Clarion? Any Pics of him if so?

I'm more interested in seeing pics of your clipperton. ;)

Ugly fish that Clipperton.
If it were common it would be less popular then a 6 bar angel..and sell for $39.99
in fact, its mommas so ugly...

my lfs has 2 just like they told me they would, i saw them both tonight, they r gorgeous. Both about 4-5" and half way through their change to adult colors. they really r incredible. one is sold already and the other is up for grabs.

I know many people who say the same things about other fish. IE- "why go with the wtatnabe angel, they are just big chromis". beauty is in the eye of the beholder. How many africanus angels were sold recently? To turn into adults that look like what?! Heck, if I wanted a vivid orange fish in my tank, why get a clarion, when I can get a garibaldi for 1/10th the price and 1/2 the aggression?

Bear in mind, not necessarily my opinion, but there is something to be said about exclusivity.

The one and only one time I've seen a clipperton, the deep shade of greyish blue was pretty beautiful to me. But then, I'm not necessarily into this hobby for the pretty colors. The physiology or perhaps geographic distribution of organisms makes for a great conversation as well. I've kept some really ugly fish, ranging from naturally extinct livebearers and endangered haplochromis from Victoria. Their endemic distribution made them interesting to me.

The Clipperton is of course a very handsome and unique fish.
It does not however have the sustainable market value as does a clarion. It saturates faster and must remain rarer to keep the interest up high enough to warrant the very long trip!
Its list of eager buyers is smaller and more eclectic.

Steve, I would have to agree with you there. I imagine a boat ride to Clipperton isn't cheap. Sadly, if they were ever to become available, they would cost too steep for my comfort.

If enough people declare interest in such a trip...
hmmmm.....why not?

Take me with you!

I would come along to. I think they are very beautiful fish and like Mark said its just interesting were they come from.

Put me on the list.
