And who would pay for this trip? Volunteers?

This is not a problem.
First you have to know what's the costs of such a trip.
Then you talk with people who have been there and who are in the know, to check about the weather and how many fish can be collected (idea).
Then check with the pottential customers to get an idea of what the price can be.
Debit + credit, if it's worth it, start getting advance payments.
Steve knows how to do it better than anybody.

Steve,

The diving at Clipperton Island is spectacular, if the opportunity ever were to present itself.

Congrats on your success!

my lfs has 2 just like they told me they would, i saw them both tonight, they r gorgeous. Both about 4-5" and half way through their change to adult colors. they really r incredible. one is sold already and the other is up for grabs.

Where about in NJ? I'd love to see them! What were they asking for them?

Really sad I went to my Lfs and they had 3, 4-5" clarions and they all had ich. So sad to see. Oh well hope they get treated and someone doesn't buy mthem w/o looking closely.

Ick is so easy to treat....
I hope they have done it already...and no others have shown it at all, not even the worst of the few hold-backs.!

......I just left the wharehouse after opening up 160 bluespot jawfish without a single dead one or bad tail!
Very cool...
All caught with tiny hooks...no dope cuz only 'dopes use dope'...[ and scientists].

I've had an itch to return to Clipperton recently...especially now with hearing that you got to get Clarions. It might be good to collaborate. I'd leave the deep diving to you though.

For those of you who bought some of these, what are your plans when they hit 6-7+ inches?

I only ask because I had one early in my college days (early 90s) that was a trade in from a local who didn't want it anymore. It was about 8" long, 2" wide and would not allow another fish in a 150G tank.

Mine was more agressive and bold than a passer, and not to just other angels, but all fish.

Have a plan and budget if you want to keep it long term. If my experience was any indication, you will likely need one.

Well, in the past couple of years most of the Clarions that entered HK market were from Japan from people who decided to get rid of them cause they outgrow the tank.
They were sold for 7-10K.
So if the Clarions will become illegal again, I dont think it will bother people who bought it .
In case they'll have to pass it on they can go for some serious shopping. :D

For an investment, they are probably pretty safe. If mine was any indication, I swear that they thing would have lived in sewage and ate table scraps. It was a hardy fish.

I guess I was just trying to point out that this might not be a great community fish as they grow/age. If you want to KEEP it, then you might want a plan for a species only tank down the road if you don't already have a 1000G tank or something.

Don't worry, I asked the same questions of people in the africanus thread :D

Thye can be very agressive, but I know Clarions kept for years in a community tanks with other Angels and tangs.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner on this Butch :) I did however pass along your message to the guys that wanted to go.

Getting this away from becoming the Clipperton angel thread :D

Here is a small video of my little guy, finally getting comfortable and chasing down the cyclopeeze. Took me a while to get it eating.. right now all it eats is the cyclopeeze.. ignores everything else.
