CLOWN FIGHT!! i need help...

I met Steve today (ThePro) great guy... traded me a true perc and some frogspawn for some frags. I LOVE this fish! Thanks a lot Steve!

Now, onto business.... the newly added perc wasted NO TIME in going to attack my old clown (given to my by Jose (dohc97)). I had to separate them. Does anyone have any ideas that might help me keep them from fighting!? It would really suck to have one of these guys get killed, or stressed so bad they they die of disease. Any input is appreciated. :(

Hello
Do you have any small hang on containers, isolate one for a few days and try to introduce them after moving a few rocks around.

i guess i will have to run out and get one tommorow. Right now i have one suspended inside the netting of a large net that is stuck at the top of the tank.

-sigh- this is kind of depressing. Both these fish are toooo nice.

I dont think the fish i gave him was a female or even an adult at that. The fish is not that big and the other one that died on me was bigger. Usually the bigger out of the pair is the female if im not mistaken, the fish i gave Juan was not the bigger one of the 2, if anything it was a little bit smaller. Im not sure if they had defined their sex yet either. How bad was the fighting Juan? how big is that percula too?

Take them both out and put them into the same quarantine divided by a bit of plastic grid for a week, then remove the grid for another week before reintroducing. If they start at it, turn the lights out: they have terrible memories, and what they wake up to is often the new reality.

I had the same situation a few months ago. The weaker one got killed. the othee one died a few days later due to injury. If you want to solve your problem quickly, give one to me :D

Try taking them out & totally redecorate the tank. Then put the new one in & after a few days put the old one in. If they are indeed both femals, it'll never work.

dude, sorry they are fighting..that's so wierd. He has been the most peaceful fish in my tank. I've never had an issue with him. Good luck.

thanks for all the advice guys. Im going to try sk8tr's method and see what happens. Today, i let them both go in the tank a bit to see what happens... and they were showing agressive chasing behavior, so i had to split them up again.

-jose, they are about the same size actually. Neither of them has stopped eating, which is good.

i was thinking of also getting one of those netting boxes... and separating them in there for a couple days with the lights off, and rearranging the rocks.... any ideas?

Seriously, if they are both about the same size, it is quite dangerous to both. Because if the weaker one die from the beating, the victor may not survive from the injury neither. That was what happened to mine. The best solution is to give one away...to me... :D . Why go through so much headache?;)

I put my false percs in at the same time and same size with little problems now the one is three times the size of the other

Jeni Yes I know My point was they were the same size when they went in and did not beat the crap out of each other

Buy them as juvies & 1 of them will change sexes, if need be, so they will wind up a pair. The best way to guarantee a pair.
