Clown tang gill problems..Pls help

calk me Q

New member
I got a clown tang 3 days before, currently it is eating BBS, small pellets everything well. However ,i checked him today found he has one gill closed tightly, and another gill flapping vigorously. Besides, he darkens his body except when eating.

The other fish in the QT are OK no problem.

I personally think this could be a gill parasite though it doesnt show any flicking symtoms. Or should it be the result of poorly transportation(or handling)?

What's wrong with the Clown? Any one help? Your expierence?

Can you post a pic? I would make sure the water is fully aerated since he's having a hard time breathing. There are a few things that will cause them to keep their gill closed. One of them is flukes. Have you dosed Prazi?
You could also do a FW dip. This will give him some relief.

+1 or point a powerhead toward the surface and start some Prazipro ASAP. Im assuming you didnt notice this when you first got the fish?

both of u are right. THx.
The problem i found is ironic and unusual: I use the seawater that i made from scratch, and which is a totally lethal prescription.

Yesterday i transfer all the fish in the QT into my main tank( currently they are good and no ill effects) except one boxfish. It died today morning. Same symtoms i found yesterday with clown Tang: rapid breath, darkened color.

Anyway, what in the seawater has caused the gill problem is my another curiosity..HAha
