Clown with fork tail

Has anyone seen a clownfish with a forked tail? I have had a couple of reefers said they hadn't seen one before. It was sold to me as a Clark's Clown. The mail also has a single prong coming off the top of his tail.

They are A.chrysopterus, not clarkii.

Nice find. Forked tail is rare, but not unusual. They are difficult to acclimate, watch out for brook.

Male should re-grow the missing part with time.

MarinaP,

Thanks. The male has had only had one prong for about two years. Both are very healthy. They have not laid eggs yet. Still hoping they will get in the mood.

I think there's only two clowns with forked tails, A. latifasciatus and A. Omanensis. Maybe you have A. latifasciatus cuz I've never seen a chrysopterus that color or with a forked tail.

I also wanted to point out that the female has a spike on her head which I thought was an injury. Could this be just how it is?

Your first thought was correct. That is an injury that didn't heal back to its original state. I guess it could be a birth defect, but I highly doubt it.

Redsea two band (A.bicintus) and blue stripe (A.chrysopteus) Vanuatu variant have forktail. Even some clarkii get forktail also.

You can easily find ORA t.r. bicintus and clarkii with forktails.

I am going to agreed with MarinaP on that it's a blue stripe given its wider head band.

+1 more agreeing with MarinaP. Looks very similar to my pair from Guam. Female also has forked tail. Here is pic of the male.

I agree with Marina P as well. its a chrysopterus and there have been a few of these being imported recently with the forked tail. They are an unsual chrys. but none the less.

Large Angels,
you never seem to surprise me with what type of clowns you have. We need to talk.........:)

That is what my wife says's, but I don't think she means it in a good way (haha.)

very interesting chrysopterus you have Large Angel :) you two in Michigan should meet up LOL

This is definitely different than the typical Vanautu & Tonga variants.

Marina, where are they collected? these have white tail like vanuatu variant .. the first one can be mistaken for a Mccullochi LOL for a first look
