Clowns are louder than my vortech!

My two ocellaris are spending a lot of their time in the top corner of my tank "œbiting" at the surface. It is actually quite annoying as it makes a loud sound :p
If you see the FTS below, they are doing this on the top right, behind the outlet. At this tiny spot, the water surface is quite calm.

I guess they are swallowing some of the air because I've seen them fart a few times "“ I have had fish for many years, but I've never seen bubbles coming out of their behind :)

Does anyone know why they could be doing this? I would really like them to stop. They seem healthy and are well fed. Tank params are Ca-420, Alk-8, Mg-1315, NO2/NO3/Nh4-not detectable (salifert)

Thanks.

Mine do the exact same thing, they click a lot and sound very much like a pistol shrimp. They tend to do it the most if I am messing with the tank.

I haven't heard a pistol shrimp, but I guess the sound would be similar, yes :)

"œMessing in the tank" "“ do you assume they are tasting detrius or something being blown around when you are working in the tank? I really wonder what mine are trying to eat. The water is seems close to perfectly clean. I cannot see anything at the surface.
I really wish they would stop. Now as I am writing this, they have been doing it constantly. *snap snap snap snap* :S

Gorgeous setup, BTW!
Thanks.

Feed them more and see if it subsides... maybe they are just trying to tell you that they want food. My triggers and puffers would come to the top where I feed and spit water when they were hungry, maybe this is just your clowns way of showing their hunger.

I'd especially believe this theory if you feed in that corner?

Thanks.

If I open the lid or take pictures with a flash it really sets the male off. The very mean female does not do it as often.

Snails near the water line or in his territory will also cause him to click more.

I believe I have a video and audio of him doing it.

Very nice tank, what kind/size is it?
Thanks. It's an Elos Mini. 20g cube.

I usually feed them in the opposite corner, front left. Sometimes front right. I hand feed them, so the food should never get to their noisy-spot.
I feel I already feed them quite a lot, but I guess I can try giving them some more.

they are clowns, and farts are funny. hence biting the air followed by a quick pull my fin:P
:D

Mine will sometimes bite my hand, but "œmarking their territory" once you get close? Haha, that is awesome. :)
It would be great if you could post the video.
