clowns hosting Condy anemone

Yeah I will most likely have to give it away. I've been thinking about that for a while when my initial concerns with the hosting.
Quick question I believe I read somewhere about the condy cutting down it's own tentacles. Could that be a form of shedding?

Correcting to my last post.

Yeah most likely I will need to give the condy away. I've been thinking about doing this ever since my initial concerns began with the clowns attempts to host it. Could there be a possibility that the condi could be shedding it's tentacles?

What you are seeing is the affect of the clowns rubbing against its tentacles. They will begin deflating starting at the tips and progressing down the tentacle. This will continue until the entire animal stops expanding and dies. I have never seen a condi simply shed its tentacles. I have see clowns tare tentacles off with thier mouths and spit them out. Especially after they begin to deflate.
These anemones are not as plentifull as they once were in the wild. My favorite swimming hole in the keys had them about 10 foot apart years ago. Now there are none. I see that you live in Florida. If your anemone is a FL condi Maybe you can take a little trip to the keys this weekend and let it go. That is if you live close enough. Just one idea. Good luck and I hope you find a good home for him.

Man........ I know you are not trying to start with me again. :D

And not all condi's eat the clowns that try to use them as hosts.

Not trying to start anything with you, just "informing" you. :D

Well, thanks for the info then.

Thats all I was trying to do is inform people. No one had brought up the danger to the host so I did.

Unfortunately, most folks cannot even keep their Condy anemones alive long enough to actually experience if their clowns are negatively affecting their Condy or if the Condy hurts them. The first anemone I bought ever was a Condy and I am glad I did. I would have failed to keep any other anemone alive at the time. My Condy did do well for the first month but then its health started to rapidly decline, shrinking in size. I upgraded my PCs to Tek T5s and it made all the worlds difference and soon as its health started to pick up, my baby clarkii at the time began to host it. Eventually my baby clarkii got kicked out by the female tomato clownfish I had at the time. For some odd reason, my condy had an appeal that attracted clownfish. I ended up selling my Condy and the tomato though and moved on to pacific anemones which I am still figuring out today.

unfortunately you are correct that most people dont keep them long. My first anemone was a condi also. I collected it myself in the keys. I killed several before I figured out what I was doing wrong. Not something I'm proud of. I wish I would have had RC back then.
