Fixing the club's website was one of the reasons why I joined this club. I'd met some members and was into the hobby, but the website was in pretty bad shape. It had not been updated in over a year. So I joined because I wanted to help, and learn more about the hobby from experienced folks.

we should start a list of pros and cons to see if the goods out weigh the bads
so far the pros:
freedom of speach
previously banned club members can be a part again
more $ brought into the club through advertising
cons:
less traffic
cost

Whos considered commerical now and sells 1/4" frags that were fraged the day before? I am sorry that half of the poeple who bought my corals at the frag swap didn't know how to keep sps from the club, all wanting their money back after making threads that they have high nitrates at the sametime. LOL I sold corals for $5 that were all atleast and inch, especially my purple tenuis that goes for $80 an inch online I sold for $10, get off my ***!

I guess i must be dense because i really dont understand all of this. People want to leave RC all in a huff and start our own forum for the main purpose of "freedom of speech". However, rule #1 of the new forum will be "No bashing any LFS". Am i the only one that thinks that is hypocitical as hell????
The only new freedom will be that people who dont consider this a "hobby" but rather a business will be able to sell as many frags as they want.

Secondly, selling frags is not a business for anyone I know. If you are making a living selling frags on a reef forum, I'd venture to say you are living way below the poverty line. The point of selling frags is nothing more than to support the addiction to this hobby that many of us have. I have never sold frags but I am always a fan of buying a frag from someone I know. And most of the time they sell the frag for a great price. That said, I see this happen on RC all the time? Who says this isn't allowed here? I personally don't believe this is an advantage to having our own forum because we can do that here.

First of all, imo, there is a big difference between bashing a LFS and mentioning that a LFS has 60% of their fish dead or with ick.
I value my time and if I read a review like that about a LFS I probably won't go there. That should be allowed on any site. I am not saying to be a jerk and say "that LFS was a piece of crrap, the worst people on earth, i hate them, etc." But there is definitely a respectable way to review a LFS. Just like reviewing a restaurant or movie. Of course, if you have a good product you don't have to worry about people saying those types of things. If someONE does, the people who are happy with the product almost always comes to the products defense.

Thirdly and tied to point one, "freedom of speech," is definitely, imo, not the number one reason to have your own forum. There is plenty of freedom of speech on RC (albeit not enough when it comes to talking about someone the mods dont like, but whatever). There are many other reasons to have our own forum which I have already mentioned: the ability to post under different topics (segmenting threads), the ability for LFS to post a sale they are having or a new item they have in stock, advertising revenue for the club, etc...

theres quite a few club members who are not allowed to sell here on RC because of what evr reason but the fact is those people (or atleast the ones i kno personally) arnt just in it to make a buck but instead for the love of the hobby.... personally i love buying stuff from local reefers instead of paying top dollar at most LFS and honestly i dont like the fact that RC limits us.. for example id like to kno what so and so has in there frag tank or if this person has that great frag that ive been wanting :rolleye1:
I dont think anybody here is trying to squeeze every dollar out of the hobby. The main people who are the fraggers here are students at school. Therefor, they are trying to make money in order to buy more stuff for their aquariums. Its up to you if you decide to buy it or not. Not everyone here is as priviledged to have an income to go out and buy whatever it is they want. Im certain if you research whoever is selling the frags they are turning around and spending that money to buy more frags from LFS.Originally posted by sufunk
Second, it may not be their main business but WAY to many people are using fragging as a side business and trying to squeeze every dollar out of this "hobby" that they can.

how is it not "for the love of the hobby" if the only reason they are selling frags in the first place is to have money to dump back into there tank?
