Collecting S. Gigantea in the wild (Video)

Gigantea soup with chili peppers?!! Did I miss something? These guys in Indonesia catch them to eat, and use a rebar!

What did they collect it for??? Eating it???

Those ocellaris have become fish food if they left them there without their anemone.

At the end of the video they are chopping the gigs and stir frying them with chillies and vegetables.

Indeed, studies show that clowns become prey quickly when they stray from their anemones due to their poor swimming abilities.

Actually clowns are not really bad swimmers. There are other fish that are way worse. It's just that they don't have the right flight reflexes and really don't know what to do without their anemone, especially on sandy grounds.

That's just wrong... And then the blame the aquarium trade...

Im not saying its right or wrong as certain cultures have diff ways of liveing but i am betting the aquarium trade isnt helping any, im not sure what the percentage rate is for gigs but i know alot die before they even reach the consumer

I am from Viet Nam. We eat all kind of things from the Sea. Crocea and Maxima are favorite foods. We at sea cucumber, all kinds of Conch and shell fish. I am not surprised that Anemones can make their way onto the dining table also.

I do think that only folks close to shore will eat anemone. It is kinda hard to easily transport fresh anemone inland without packing a lot of water along with it.

It is likely that a whole lot more anemones got harvest for aquarium trade than for food for these native people. They can eat them all day long and not run out of anemones.

Theses giant fishing boats that harvest T. gigantea, an endanger species, or catching shark and just cut the fins off and drop them back into the water is an entirely different level of abuse of the Ocean.
