Collecting Tropical Strays

A long, long time ago in my college days I used to collect tropical strays on Fire Island but have been there for years. Does anybody have any suggestions as to other locations that would yield some strays for later in the summer? My family is attempting to plan vacation time and I would like to perhaps go somewhere that I can spend some time collecting. I have a 265 that is maturing and would will be ready to go come late summer/early fall.

Our local aquarium society (CT) used to visit Quogue, and later, a beach opposite the Shinnecock Inlet. We tended to be more productive at the second location . . .

One year, I found a large adult blue-ring angelfish at the Shinnecock spot - unfortunately, washed up on the beach.

Also... for the past few years some folks from the Pittsburgh reef club have used my fish room as a central location for keeping what they collect until they head home. I'll extend the same invitation to you, just hit me up when you anticipate coming. I can also lend you my seine and direct you to my collecting spots.

Thanks George and I'll definitely take you up on your offer. Funny you should mention Todd as he was the guy who first introduced me to strays in New York. Our group from Millersville University used to camp out at his house (mom's) and Todd would took us collecting. Almost got university van towed once for parking... those were the days!

Time to collect is coming up. Hopefully I can find a group that is willing to care for a stray reefer for a few hours
