Beautiful!! This piece was given to me at my first COMAS meeting but I don't remember who gave it to me. It grew pretty fast in my tank.

I want I want I want

I want I want I want

Lynn I would like to have a couple of the frags from the tank. I would like yuma from post #4, any polys that I can have, really I would like any thing that will do ok under my PC lights thanks again for the bulbs. Could I get anything on post #37 they look sweet. Heck the whole tank looks sweet like the wassie too.

Thanks, Chris

new sump

new sump

I was recently able to purchase a small frag tank and planned, because of time (water tests and changes) to plumb it into the same system with the comas tank. The sump under the comas tank has several problems and is not large enough to take on another tank.

I was lucky to pick up a larger sump. Picked it up this week and got it cleaned up yesterday and plumbed in today. I added in a sand bed for bacteria growth and the rock from the other sump. I will add more rock as soon as I'm sure the system is stable.

The dark blob is chaeto aboutthe size of a soccer ball donated by sharky's machin. As I ad rock, I'll probably be looking to export some of this. It is thick and dark. So if you need chaeto, keep in contact with me as we get to meeting time.

extra surprise

extra surprise

I was honored to be ask to keep the Comas frag tank. I knew all the previous keepers and .... well you have to know them. I hadn't had a tank for a number of months and was excited for the chance to spill saltwater on the floor again (for those of you at the meeting last night :twitch:).

It's been a great bonus to meet son many people since December. One of the things that made the meeting great for me last night was sitting and watch you all tell stories and remembering which corals you've taken from the tank and the pm's we've traded and the stories you've told me about what has happened with corals.

It's been a lot of fun, and the year isn't half over.

Thanks for lettin' me keep the tank and take care of the critters.

Hey Lynn...Thanks for the frags last night..they are doing fine. I enjoyed the visit..

Glad to hear it. That red frilly is very nice.

One more shot of the new sump, after tank lights out the sump lights come on. A little tinkering with things since the last shot. At least the thermometer is in the water now :lmao:. I'm sure it will change again.

Everything looks better with lights:

no good deed goes.....

no good deed goes.....

One concern I had changing out the sumps was starting a mini cycle, mostly because of the sand bed in the sump. In the past, I would layer over with a bag of live sand, but chose to hope the live rock would colonize the sand since I was pulling it directly out of the water of the other sump and placing it into this sump.

In theory, it is a great idea. In practice it got me .50 ppm (or the third level down) on the API test kit or just not good.

What I considered:

-- tear open the bag of live sand and try to add it without causing a sand storm;
-- pull the sand out;
-- add the rest of the live rock I have cooking;

What I did:

-- Checked the amonia level every 12 hrs.
-- added generous piece of pura pad (pic below)

So sump tied in on sunday the 14th. Amonia spiked up to .50 ppm. As of this morning-- Amonia, Nitritrate and Nitrite are all undetectable on API kit I bought new 3 months ago :dance:

Took a short trip down the turnpike to see Doug (reefhappy) new DD's :thumbsup:

Beautiful tank that he will do wonders with. Based on his current tank it will be awesome.

Upon returning home I just unloaded 11 bags of frags Doug donated to the donor program into acclimation. Most bags had multiple cuttings of each coral. So, by Septembers meeting, I should have about 25 sps corals mounted, healed and encrusted for the program.

Thank you DOUG.........

Awesome! What a great deal for the club!

Concerning my situation, I'm consolidating my tank by selling off the livestock (fish). I'll be attempting to take the corals with me when I move but that may end up changing between now and summertime. Unfortunately I won't be able to frag the small monti cap I got from the program before I have to leave, so I'll be giving it back to you Lynn. I also have some brown frilly mushrooms that I'd like to donate. These guys look like the one in Marsha's pic but have a florescent green mouth and get really big (biggest inflate to about 2-3 inches sometimes. The bad thing, they have a potent sting. My Duncan fell over and was touching one a couple weeks ago and I lost some heads. They aren't the most colorful, but a cool little mushroom. I may also have a few frags to donate as well.

Napoleon,

Any corals would be appreciated. I know you would like to take them to save money on re buying them and for the familiarity when you move.....

If you decide to donate, just call and I'll help you out... moving is hectic. If you need to frag something... I'll help you there as well.

best wishes.............. Lynn

You are welcome.
I know frags can leave the donor program in a heartbeat. I have donated in the past, but felt that I was way past due on donations. And Lynn I have been wanting to get you some frags for months now. Let me know if you need anything else.

june meeting

june meeting

Hey folks, we have a meeting coming up in a week :dance:

Anybody have reports on frags they are growing out?

Any frags you want to return? Just let me know.

Also, I'll be starting a thread first of the week with pictures of things I can bring to the meeting. Just as before:

--- you must be a 2010 COMAS member;
-- you must have the appropriate tank equipment to keep the frag alive;
-- you must be willing to grow the frag until it propogates naturally or you can frag it, then bring a frag back to the prograg;
-- I'll only be bring things to the meeting you ask for so I don't stuff critters in bags for 3 hrs for no reason;

Hope to hear from you soon and see you in a week :wavehand:

Frag night

Frag night

Thanks for all the support for the Donor program tonight. It was great to be a part of the program and to hang out with Glenn and talk about the frag tank.

First, thank you to all who took out corals tonight from the frag tank. You are the reason the donor program even exists.

Second, thanks to all who brought frags to the program. I am not looking at the sheets at the momemt, but I believe we had 3 people make first time donations to the program tonight with corals they did not get from the tank.

Third, thanks to the club for the generous support to the program by supplying the corals for fragging tonight and manning the table to frag the corals.

Lastly, thank you Paul for your strong support of the program by coming up with the idea for tonight and urging everyone to return corals to the program.

This club has a rich tradition and the donor program is know across the country. Let's keep it strong and rich with corals for the new members of 2011 and 12.

I am a new member this year and last nights meeting was GREAT. I had never seen leathers cut nor understood how to attach them. I especially like the trick on how to glue underwater. I left with three frags and you should see the leathers today. They are big, polyped out and looking great!! My lights aren't even on yet, so can't wait to see the zoa frag also. I will definitely be giving back to the donor program. Lynn, I have several zoas and other stuff, Let me know what the frag tank needs. Paul thank you so much the demostration and the zoa colony. Hope the Anthias are doing well for you. Look forward to seeing some of your other stuff in person. Thanks to all, Steve

Hey Steve,

Glad you had a good time last night. COMAS is a great group of people - as im sure you noticed last night.

Judging by the background noise I had to shout over- there was lots of business being conducted about the room.

Hope to see you next meeting- and yes the anthias are enjoying their respective new homes.

P.
