I'm doing the AquaClear 70 fuge mod. And, I got it done tonight, but then when I was doing a stress test, it hit me.... I might have a serious design flaw.... =\

So ok, not serious. But... Might not have been the best way to work it. As the pictures below state. Mine has a chamber built for the vertical blue thingie filter from Petsmart/Walmart/LFS... And then one for my heater, and something else, whatever I decide to throw in there later...

Mine also has the smaller propeller from an old AC50, that really helps with keeping the water flow down. Anyways... With the possible design flaw!

I was trying to use as little "outside" parts as possible. So, I used the bottom of the holding tray, and the final leaving points block, and the side of the tray as the buffers for each chamber. Figured, they are already sized, why not, right? Everything working out great, but... Then... After time there is going to be some build-up, and "stuff" caught in the holes and the slit on it. Right? Maybe... If I am consistent with my filter pad changing, all the "stuff" will be caught on that pad, right? Hopefully... Anyways. Look at the pictures, lemme know what you think! ^^ Cheers!!!

PS... I bought a clip on light from target for $12, and a 5500k "energy efficient" bulb (one of those twisting bulbs) from Home Depot for like $4... So far, if this DOES work out, it will be well worth it!! =]

Im looking at the pictures and Im not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve here.

Can you be a little more specific and maybe we can come up with some ideas/suggestions

P.

To sum all that up, your basically worried about debris buildup and how to clean out the holes/slats right? The way it is currently set up, I think that you're pretty much screwed, I hate to say it. You can sit there with a toothbrush and toothpick and clean it all out, but if you were wanting something easy, then being able to pull out the baffles would be ideal.

Well... As I look at it, I was thinking that it might be ok... the larger stuff will be collected by the filter, that the water is going to hit first, and foremost... And that is going to be replaced on a weekly basis...

The other issue will be algae that might build up in the holes. Short of a visual disturbance, will that actually be a problem? I'm not worried about aesthetics, mainly because it won't be seen anyways. More or less worried about it hurting my tank in the long run. IE nitrite trap, leaking something else into my tank... Ya know?

a long pipe cleaner would work

or, taking it off and running HOT water through it to kill and remove the detritus

So... It should be "ok"... As long as the cleaning routine was sufficient?

Again... lessons we learn, hahahaah!
