Concrete's 120 Tech, 200g system in the works

Concrete, tank looks fantastic. I've been seriously considering a 120 Tech tank for my upcoming build. Whatever the size tank I do, I'm convinced I want to use a single, or multiple Powermodule fixtures.

I was actually going to ask you if you thought the 6 bulb was sufficient...and whether you would have gone with more bulbs.

You answered my question already in the above post, but our response really surprises me. Those ATI's are supposed to put out more PAR and be more efficient than pretty much any other T5 fixture barring the high end Itallian makes. When I saw your pics I said to myself...damn...that's a BOATLOAD of light on that tank....and the fixture is WAY off the water.....

So now I'm confused...MORE bulbs? :)

ICF-

Thanks

I just feel like 6 bulbs is not enough light, I could be seriously wrong though?? I would just feel better with 8 bulbs over my Tank- *I was told that the 8 would be a perfect choice for a 120g.

btw- My 6 bulb was originally for my 90g and I thought it was going to be the last light I would ever buy, I stumbled on this 120g by accident and look at me now ;)

You sayin that it is a "boatload of light" has made me sit back and rethink the whole thing. I think you might be right... we will have to wait and see.

GrimReefer recommended me replacing the pro color w/ an aquasun- & replacing 1 of my actinics w/ a blue plus.
What are you running Terry? any aquasuns?

Nick- I think you might be right, I'm planning on keeping LPS/ZOO's at the bottom anyway, SPS mid level & up- I'll just wait & see, and can always add light later.

if you add anything add some MH or LED spotlights like Invincible and Glass box design use.

later on of course if needed. or just because the spotlights are awesome.

Jeff, here's my configuration (recommended by Grim):

Front

Blue Plus
Super Actinic
UVL Aquasun
Aquablue
GE 3000K
UVL Super Actinic
Aquablue
Blue Plus

*Note* I did notice that he recommended other 8-bulb combos for other requestors, FWIW

Terry- I have a GE 3000k, UVL super actinic, & Giesemann Actinic+ that came with the fixture as well- How do you like the UVL SA & 3000k.

Nick- Yeah, I like the spotlight idea.. Would be kind of cool, although I would have to raise my fixture to allow light in through the top.

not too much, check out this tank with 2 LED spots on it they are quite low, the trick is to point them at an angle anyway.

If you're really concerned about it, you can add some time to your photo period; but in my estimation you have plenty of light.

People can seriously underestimate or overestimate lighting. I would lean to whatever Grim suggests to use for what you want to keep. Remember, compared to something like an Aquactinics in a similar bulb configuration the ATI destroyed it...literally twice as efficient.

Don't get me wrong, I'd luv to see that tank with 8 or even ten bulbs....nuts! :)

Also, don't forget if your spread the bulbs and reflectors too far out width wise you'll just be wasting light on your bracing in some areas.

Here's and example- we have a local reefer in our CTARS who switched from metal halides to 60" 80w T5s over his 156 oceanice -60x24x24(or 25) tank. He bleached all his corals including his sps.

It's all about the reflectors :D

The GE is yellowish. I'm not completely happen with the overall color on my tank. The reds don't pop. I think I need a procolor. The UVL SA is nice. I like that one.

Thanks peeps... I think I'll stick with what i got, love the color..
Grim only wanted me to change 1 bulb anyway..

Terry- Just go with a combo like mine.. ;)

concrete,
im glad youre liking the ati powermodule. I ordered the 4x39 for my frag tank back in early february. I'm still waiting on it but at least I didn't have to pay the increased price due to the weak dollar :D

btw are you one of the crazy people who bought gta4 after midnight? a few of my friends were talking about it but I was busy adding the flange to my 15g RO tank

No- I was going to get it (Yes, I am one of those crazy people) but I was busy re-drilling my sump, hooking up my Reeflo Tarpon, plumbing my frag tank, making saltwater, etc. etc.

I think Wal-Mart is still open, gonna call em and see if there selling it yet.. I got a feeling it's gonna be a long night-

Where's my Red Bull?

I don't think he has any.. Grim never recommends that light- Doesn't KZ make it?

yes, but somehow i doubt KZ bulbs are anything but another brand rebadged...

but its the only bulb that really has a purple/red spectrum that i have seen, the procolor is close though.

KZ seems to do that alot- The Chinese cone skimmer, T5's, the "special" zeolites..
