Cool Fish on Diver's Den

I feel they have a lot of Orange Spot Filefish listed lately - I doubt many will live for long.

Since Petco bought LA/DD I don't have much trust in them anymore. The lists they have are just sad. DD is about the rare and unusual... Not everyday fish and that's all they have anymore. Having a clarion or Conspic every now and again doesn't count... Or Gem tang

So they didn't have them as direct competition anymore.

I'm not sure that was the main reason.
Petco prays more on the uneducated novice and families than on the traditional Diver's Den customers. I feel they wanted to get more market coverage, especially on the higher end.

Personally I think that there are some areas where chain stores should be banned - pets and live stock is one of them, especially if irresponsibly operated like Petco. Corporate thinking is just counter productive when it comes to live animals,

I wonder if it is the Petco effect. I was in my LFS yesterday and the owner goes down to Los Angeles every week to huge suppliers, and he says the selection has just been terrible. Weather problems, etc.

Doesn't affect me one way or another honestly. I won't pay the markup for a DD fish and I don't buy fish from LA or Petco

I have a feeling LA/DD was collateral damage. What Petco wanted was Drs. Foster and Smith's dog and cat business. The saltwater stuff was just along for the ride.

I purchase from DD for 2 reasons only.. customer service and 14 day live guarantee...

I mean yes, seeing the fish is very important.. but seeing doesn't always mean it's healthy. If I spend $800 on a wrasse, I'd prefer to have a 14 day window. If the fish dies, OR if i screw up in QT, I have 14 days to get credits.. if available, I can literally keep trying until I get it right..

whereas fish store, sure it looks good and eating.. you screw up 1 thing or that fish dies in your QT. you are SOL.. $800 gone

yes DD over charges... IE: a feminus wrasse, cost around $600 whole sale.. $200 extra for 14 day insurance is good in my book.
