Just had a fish come in today at 1.026. That's where I keep my tank so I'm happy with it.
 
What is everyone checking salinity with? How often are you calibrating? Seems that the salinity readings from DD are all over the place and I would be willing to bet that the salinity doesn't rise and fall every day or so like some of the readings that have been posted
 
I really don't give a damn as long as the specific gravity is not below 1.016 kg/L. Most teleost fish can handle +/-0.010 kg/L swings around the nominal 1.026 kg/L without problems. Fish that live in lagoons or tidal zones see such drastic swings quite often.

I usually don't even bother to check salinity on incoming fish.

As for how I measure salinity - I have two refractometer, one is calibrated to 0 ppt (with RO water) for hyposalinity and the other one to 35 ppt (with 35 ppt calibration solution) for checking full salinity.
My DT is actually salinity controlled via my APEX salinity module and a RO refill pump.

I use a good ole fashioned hydrometer and don't have any issues. Sure, may not be most accurate, but it's precise. And no calibration needed

That's still a baby.

I have two, a tank bred and a wild. As soon as they start spawning I plan on breeding some again. They are even more cute when they still have the white sides.
 
I think a fully grown cleaner shrimp should be pretty safe from this little guy.
But sexy shrimp, fire shrimp, pistol shrimp and the likes are definitely on the menu, maybe even the smaller Stenopus species.
