Cool Fish on Diver's Den

Exactly! That is Diver direct pricing BTW... Question is, is the bandit eating and eating with gusto for $600?

I doubt it. I bet that fish is on its deathbed and LFS reduced price to try and get something off it. My guess is it's not eating anything :(

Yep!

These guys never seem to photograph well. Mine actually looked a lot like this one in his WYSIWYG pic, but is much better looking in person (my pics don't do him much justice either). IME, as they grow, their colors really intensify. Great fish if you have the right system for one!

Heres a pic! (he's about 11").

edit: I was pretty tempted to snag this guy to try and pair with my current one (The fish available is still a juvenile). Just don't have the space for another large fish!

How is he with smaller fish?

Maybe. I got one that was 4" from Rufus for $600 and it ate out of my hand day 2. All depends on where they came from. (Obviously they all come from Hawaii but you know what I mean)

I am pretty good friends with the owner of said fish store and worked for him in college, its eating and looks to be in really good shape, being kept in a 360 gal aquarium.
Wish I had a big enough aquarium, but also can't justify spending that much on a fish.
One question, is the indentation on the rear of its dorsal fin normal?
another pic, sorry if I am derailing the thread.

Also if you are interested in getting this fish send me a PM, owner is a stand up guy and will ship, contact me via PM for his contact info, if this is not permitted or against forum rules I will delete. Just let me know, but they have had the fish pictured for 3 months and I have witnessed it eating.

Nope, seems to be aggression, should grow back with time...

Man 600$ is a steal. I wish you were in Colorado, I'd be picking that sucker up.

I've never spent more than 50$ on a fish just so you get some perspective
:)

Only a 7 hr drive if you live in boulder, this LFS is known for being the best priced where I live.

How is he with smaller fish?

He shares the pool with a bunch of smaller fish (damsels, chromis, etc...), and hasn't bothered anything yet. They were all added before the tripletail, which may be a factor. He can be like a little torpedo when food hits the water, so I'm not sure that I'd add anything else "bite sized" without being extremely cautious.

The spot on the back of the caudal fin isn't suppose to be there...

Thanks for the reply. A fish that gets that big would look way out of place in my 625g... Will leave those to people like you with swimming pools!

This is one fish that should be primarily bought tank raised as wild specimen are likely to be cyanide caught. It also looks like ORA hasn't yet managed to screw them up - those two look pretty perfect to me.
