Cool Fish on Diver's Den

I just came to post that awesome looking angel. WOW what a beauty!

There is a coral beauty listed tonight as an ultra coral beauty, but the colors look really washed out. It looks more yellow in the body as opposed to orange.

Someone got that beauty. It says Size: 3-1/2"
Philippines Purple Masked Angelfish. This fish has been quarantined and conditioned since June 15, 2016.

Although not normally rare these are in high demand and do not last long on the site.

Wow. That is awesome

Not for $200. You can get eating ones for half that price. Even if they are eating it doesn't mean your in the clear. I had two that went thru 6 weeks of CP and then went into my DT and I haven't ever seen them again... (this was months ago) They were also eating like champs, 2 of 15 fish in the tank too.

Orion thats a blue face

Same thought. That's a lot for a regal. Although at the end of the day, isn't that really the prettiest fish in the sea?

I mean, look at that thing!

Pretty one, but $450

It doesn't look much nicer than the two of my Sumatra Regal pair - and I paid less than half of that for both.

I also find that this one is rather pale for a Red Sea Regal.

IME there isn't enough difference between Red Sea and Indian Ocean Regal Angels (East Africa, Maldives, Sumatra) to justify the price difference.

Back in Europe Maldives Regals were actually the most sought after as they had the best reputation in eating right away and being coloration wise on par with Red Sea specimen. Red Sea Regals were rather rare finds due to the higher price tag. I have actually only seen one that Michael Mrutzek had in his store's display tank.

That fish does not have the striking coloration of a Red Sea Regal angel. He already have a start of a blue chest. Here is a picture of my Red Sea Regal. As you can see the chest have no hint of blue at all. I think the light color the fish is under account for a lot of the color differences but there is no hiding that the LA fish have a grey chest.

Here is my pacific angel. The blue chest is a lot bluer here. IMO, the LA regal looks like in between but not fully yellow chested fish.

Adult Red Sea and Indian Ocean specimen can have grayish cheeks, that is nothing unusual. It may be a mood indicator or just random.

Though this Red Sea Regal is not what I would expect a Red Sea Regal to look like.

BTW, how is the Philippine regal coming along? Do you plan to put it with this Pacific one?

My Bali regal is still giving me the run-around as to what he is - he has some key features of the Pacific Blues, but is not as grey-blue as he should be by now:

There is some possibility that it is a hybrid.

I have the Philippine Regal in my 65 gal at the office. He is the star of the tank there. My home tank I already have a Red Sea and a Pacific Regal. I don't know if I should add a third. The dominate Regal in my home tank is the Red Sea. If it was the other way around, I would add a third. As it is I am not sure. What is your advise? Size wise the Red Sea is largest, and the Philippine is the smallest but not by much, about 1/2 inch shorter.

In person, the color diferent between my Red Sea and Pacific is very striking. Mainly the Yellow bars are much wider in the Red Sea which give a much brighter "yellow" fish in compair to the Pacific.

Your Bali above is still very small. Still have his false eye and hardly have any spike.

The Philippine regals were not much larger than the Ball when I got them and also still had the false eye.
The Philippine regal I kept is really blue in overall appearance by now. I'm still debating if I should try to put him and the Bali together.
The larger of my Sumatra pair has gotten much more yellow by now and it seems his bars are getting narrower. The eye spot is completely gone.
The smaller one is in the process of losing the eye spot, but is still far less yellow in appearance.

When comparing the Sumatra and Philippine regals next to each other they look like different species...
