Coral Maternity in Portugal

Wow

Wow

It's great seeing how well SPS do with T5's over a shallow tank, absolutely beautiful.

Had a question about your lighting fixtures, they look like commercial fixtures with waterproof endcaps. Is that correct? Who is the manufacturer.

Thanks.

so few bulbs for such a deep tank how does that work?

Hi magnoliarichj,

Yes, it is true, I lack of lamps for the corals grow more. The Maternity tank is 18 "in height and are mounted eight tubes (8x80w = 640w) and the Day-care tank is 20" in height and 10 tubes (10x80w = 800w. I need at least two more tubes in each tank, for that I have to change my lighting system, but it has high costs.

Cheers,

Hello va_riverrat!

The fixture was developed by a Portuguese guy Mr. Fernando Ribeiro, and is marketed by his online shop whose name is Seahorseshop.com.
He sells parts, namely, the aluminum structure you see between the tubes, the ballast, fittings, endcaps, the reflector, etc.. , and i only have to buy the electric cables and mount the fixture. If I mount i can save money. The only inconvenient is that in an aquarium with 39" width, such as my Day-care tank, I can only put five fixtures (10 tubes) because the aluminum structure of each fixture occupies the space of one tube, and so having 5 fixtures as i have in my Day-care tank, are 5 tubes unless I can use. Where i have an aluminum estruture i should have one more tube.

Cheers

You could mount one more tube below it. It would just raise your other lamps up about 1"

I don't see the ballast on those T5.

Hi xinumaster,

As majesticangelfish said, ballasts are inside the square aluminum estruture.

H20ENG, i understand your idea but i think that is not easy to solve the problem. The aluminum structure is sold with four holes to fix endcaps for two tubes. To mount one more tube it would be necessary to open two more holes and could mount another tube, but I think that this third tube mounted below the others would produce shadows in the tank ...

Hi Giga!

The Mangrove lighting in my prop consists of two fixtures with 4 Sunpro tubes 54w each (total 216w) ATI tubes.
I try to spray with osmosis water every day but many days I forget.
As Mangrove consumes large quantities of magnesium I supplement twice as much groTech magnesium in the calcium reactor to compensate.
In the Mangrove tank i use one Tunze pulse pump.
When i had my home aquariums, I had two mangrove tanks belonged to the system and i took care of them as bonsai, up to 13 years old. Now they are not bonsai anymore because they have much space up to grow.

Some Mangrove bonsai pics taken 5 years ago when they were part of my home aquariums system, under HQI lamps:
