You have a beautiful home. Your wife must be like mine. She needs a seperate building to store Christmas decorations for the other 6 months of the year.

I'm along for the ride. Thank you for sharing.

I LOVE THE Phillips high intensity LED's so you can change the mood/color of your room at any time controlled by comp i want this system omg that is soo cool!!!! got a link to the product that make that happen ( i know im a copy cat =P)

You can see the lights on this link: http://www.colorkinetics.com/ls/rgb/covemx/

Each 12" light is a single row of LED's in a repetitive red/green/blue order, so it can truly make any colour imaginable. Each 12" light operates as a single colour at any given time and can be controlled independently or as a group. When I programmed the lights there are programs I use on the computer to choose the colours or actions, like a chaser, rainbow, fades, cross-overs, intensity, solid colours, twinkling, etc. Then the actions can be sequenced together and put into timing or the lights can just be made to come on at a certain colour at a certain time. Very complex lighting or just simple on/off.

After I designed the programs, they were uploaded to a controller unit (small dedicated computer they sell) and it runs the light shows via a small controller pad on the wall where Peter presses a button to activate the lights or a light show.

Don't be looking for this at the local Home Depot or lighting store, it all has to be purchased through Philips. Contact them for more information and pricing.

If you live in the Toronto area, you may have seen the same system as it currently lights up the CN Tower.

LazyK, Thanks, she has expanded into two extra storage trailers :frog:

Quick note

Quick note

I want to take a moment for an apology to the folks who may have PM'd me and I may have been late in responding or failed to respond. I'm not used to the multi channels of communication on the forum and my time in front of the keyboard is sporadic at best for the moment. The best place for continuity is the thread itself for sure and the PM may be not as certain for a quick turnaround. remind me in the forum you have PM'd me and I'll be guaranteed to check it out.

Also I want to make an observation regarding the 'climate' in this thread from the beginning. You guy's and gal's have been incredible...........stand up and take a bow! I can't believe how positive and constructive this experience has been for me and my team. As most of you know, the tendency in this place is sometimes driven by individuals ( I forget the correct term ) who scoot through just stirring up unnecessary debate for the sake of argument. This hasn't happened here and I can honestly say I haven't encountered anyone I wouldn't gladly invite into my home for a tank tour from the beginning.

To a fault I want to protect this environment and this community from any deviant behaviour. I am asking waaaaaay before it happens that if the activity becomes uncomfortable let the Mods look after it......don't bite or play with them. This thread is important to me as I am hoping that 'our tank' we produce is something RC and the members of this thread can be very proud of. Make no mistake, this is our tank, I may be paying for it but you guys are living and caring for it for sure. I have HUGE blind spots that can only be helped and corrected by the capable folks I have met in this forum environment. Lets make this thread a center of excellence and best practices when it comes to large tank dialogs.

For the folks who have been hiding behind the curtains just watching please feel free to step out and say hi. Its the best way to truly feel like a card carrying member of this thread. At some point in the future membership in this thread will have its privileges. AND the value of those privileges???? PRICELESS!!!!

Thanks everyone.

Peter

Sage advice, Peter. There have been other endeavors such as yours that have turned into unfortunate dramatic episodes via this community (and others, to be sure), and it's awesome to see this starting off with such foresight.

Re: Gunk

Re: Gunk

You asked about Gunk a page or two back. The answer to your question really depends on what kind of gunk you are talking about. If you are referring to the biological gunk/slime that tends to build up on aquarium plumbing, pumps and the like then no worries for your household drains. The combination of the drains being dry the vast majority of the time with the inevitable freshwater that goes down the pipes will keep this slime clear. As far as particulate junk goes, you do need to be careful. Nothing will get the RotoRooter man out to your place quicker than accidentally pumping some volume of sand down the drain. On the other hand, in the past I have merely installed standard drain covers/filters commonly available at your local hardware store to keep the big stuff out of the drain. The small particles flush right through the system with no problems. I would recommend that you make it SOP to flush all your drains in your fish room with fresh water at least once a week. It helps to keep things flushed out and keeps the smell down.

Cheers.

Peter this thread and build is insane! Putting together a 250G set up myself right now and I feel a little tank envy:)

It's really cool to hear that you are best friends with Cliff Thorburn. That guy is a Canadian icon. I remember when as I kid reading about his big wins in the Toronto Star all the time. Never have we produced such a great player since.

Great to see a fellow Canadian reefer that will put Canada on the map! First Olympic Hockey Gold, next up Reef Central Gold!

A testament to how well you have managed this thread and to your awesome inspired vision is that if you sort by most views this thread is already on page 2 after only a little more than a week.:spin1:

Thanks, I really owe the insight to Chingchai and the year I waited before stepping off the cliff. I think we are both on the same page with these issues for sure.

Thanks Drew, I don't think you realize just how effectively and positively you close down endless basement conversations on some of these topics. Your feedback is both timely and welcome.

If I may.........what about the 'gunk' that comes from the automatic head cleaner on my skimmer? John from DQI has nicknamed it 'Robbie the Robot' from Lost in space!

Peter

PS. my plan is to publish the SOP for the ongoing maintenance in this thread for approval from the thread members before it gets nailed to the elevator door.

Thanks Wei, you are right. Not only is he a gentleman's gentleman and a very good friend, Cliff is a hell of a good pool player. His golf isn't too shabby either, he plays with a handicap in the single digits and depending on whats at stake he gets scarey good. I guess if its round and sits on anything green he can sink it!!!

I like it........Reef Central Gold........nice ring to it! You can bet it will take a collective effort to win it and based on the support to date it will be within our grasp. Long way to go but makeable for sure.

A week!!!!!! A Week!!!!!!!!!! It's only been a week? You should be in this basement......It already feels like a year. Thanks Rascalson, I really do appreciate the enthusiasm. There really isn't a better fuel on the planet.

If I must say you owe no one an apology just the mere respect you have shown this community so far is of itself a blanket for any reply that you have missed or will miss in the future. You are one man taking on a large project and taking your time to keep us updated as to you progress, so I say thank you for allowing me/us to be a part of it and great work so far, I will be staying tuned for the future progress

With a comment like that I feel like I've just discovered that Morgan Freeman is driving the car.............and all I can think of to say is.......Please, take us all to the piggly wiggly. I really am overwhelmed with the sentiment. Thank you. I will try and keep the bar raised to respect and make your time here well spent.

Wow....This tank is going to be crazy. :bounce3:

northernreefer, we do have medication for that you know. At least in Canada............ooops! Then again, if you are truly Canadian you may not fully appreciate the nuance...........Australians do, Australians understand crazy real well.
