Coralife Calcium Reactor

I am running for 2 days but so far can't get the CA and ALK up. How long did it take to start seeing that?

CA = 380
ALK = 7.0
Mag = 1200
Salinity = 1.024

CR PH = 6.5-6.7
CR drip rate = 138 per minute
CO2 rate = 15 per minute

Calcium reactors are not really for raising alk and Ca levels, they are for maintaining the Ca/ALK levels without having to add supplements. Adjust your tank parameters using calcium and alk additives to the desired level and maintain with the calcium reactor.

I see Im abit behind but I'll post anyway. Darn network!!!

I have used 2 coralife reactors (And one Phos-Reactor, that leaked out of the box too but thats another thread). First one out of the box had some poor plastic molding issues and leaked like a sive. The second one out of the box seems to work for a while and then it stops.

IMHO I feel that the whole one pump (recirculation and In/Out) thing is not the greatest desigin. It is very hard to control the drip rate through the reactor body.

All in all I have not been to happy with many coralife products that I have used, both aquarium and reptile, to me the products never seem measure up to a slightly higher cost compeator. Take corallife's Fluroescent bulbs for example...Who out there uses them if they would have the option of URI or Osram. They are both way better products for only a buck or two more in most cases.

Anyway I digress. Anyone for some two hand touch reactor ball? 1 Mississippi... 2 mississippi...3 mississippi

I really haven't had any problem with controlling the effluent out, but I do have to start a siphon in order to get it running at first. The way that I have ours setup may facilitate the flow, as I have it coming out of the sump and then dropping about 1.5' and then back up.

I saw that there was mention in another thread that somebody used an Aqua Lifter in order to force water in and that helped with that.

What effluent drip rate are you attemping to achieve? Additionally, is the reactor itself below your source waterline?

I would imagine that if you were going for less than about 60ml/min or so it may be a problem in stock config since the pump is pulling as well as pushing; and that may starve the pump.

Oh, and do you have the pinch valve on the output side?

If the effluent rate of the Coralife reactor stops, check the water flow indicater chamber. The inlet/outlet nipples of the plastic chamber are prone to plugging. It's hard to see because they are covered by the colored tubing.

Wow. It seems like everyone is having the same problem. Thats a shame. I was looking for a cheap alternative for my mixed reef tank.

I have it for 5 days and the set up was so easy. No problem at all. I just set it up right next to the sump. No feed pump needed. Alkalinity is raised and maintained at 7.7 dKH. I will add more CO2 to get to the ALK target at 9.0 dKH. I like this simple and low cost design. Hope it lasts long time

I can not keep the water to keep flowing. it will work for about a day then it will just stop. I have to take the intake water line off and start the shipon again and we are good to go for about another day. what is everone doing to keep the water flowing. I have moved the clamp to the output side, increased the flow, moved the reactor drip chamber lower. nothing works. ANy ideas, tips or hints.

How far is it from the sump and did you extend any tube line? Also, what is your dripping rate? Mine is still working great after 2 weeks with steady 440 CA and 7.6 ALK

I have done that. The reactor is on about 3 weeks old I have even opened up the size of the holes on the drip chamber. did not have to extend the line just move the drip chamber lower which to to help it continue the water flow longer. just tired of having to prime the sytem to get it to work. been trying to keep my drip rate at 60bpm. just can't get it to work long enough to get it set. my calcium and alk and up/down right now.

I have the drip rate at 140 per minute for my 180 G tank. Don't know how big your tank is but something to try

I think I have figured it out contacted esu and they said make sure that base of the reactor is higher than the intake strainer. so far so good. will let you know.
