Crocea shell's joint disconnected!!! *PICS*

I bought a Crocea clam whos shell has come apart at one end. What would cause this, and will the joint repair itself??? You can also look through the incurrent siphon and see completely through the clam! Here's a couple of pics. Tell me what you think.

its a little hard to tell...but the best thing to do right now is to leave it alone. only time will tell.

it completely normal. clam shells are only connected on one edge, other wise it couldn't open. think of your front door with hinges on two sides.

the opening you are seeing under the clam is the byssal opening, thats where they stick there foot through. they hold it closed most of the time.

Ahhh...cool. That's good to know. I thought I had a messed up clam. Mine looks just like the one in your picture when it's fully opened. Thx.
