Cross-species clownfish love?

I put in a percula clown and a false into my tank a couple days ago and after a while of being in the tank on the first day they were dancing. Next morning, same deal. So my question is- can false and true perculas mate? I would think not but I'm not sure why they are doing the clownfish dance together. Please help with my confusion.

a customer at my store once told me he had a percula and a maroon mate a bunch of times. although i dont believe him i think your situation is much more believable. im stickin around to find out

They have been cross bred many times. Ocellaris and percula are so closely related that the offspring are fertile. The "Black Photon" clowns are a hybrid of these two species.

Belive it or not,Ocellaris and Maroons have been crossed to produce Maroonallaris.I see if the condidtions are good that a Percula and a Maroon could spawn. Many sp. have been hybritized.Like Frentatus x Ocellaris.

I don't remember saying that????? I guess "closely related" is relative. If you're comparing a percula and saddle back to...... say........ a shark, then yes. The percula and saddle back would be more closely related. If you're comparing percula and saddle back to an ocellaris, the percula would be more closely related to the ocellaris than to the saddle back. Saddle backs are more closely related to sebae anemone fish.

I've never seen a successful pairing between saddle back/A. polymnus and percula. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, or that it can't happen. If you're successful, they would probably produce some pretty sweet looking clowns. The way I see it, if you go by the scientific classification of these fish, there's no known reason why such a pairing couldn't be successful. Ocellaris has been successfully bred with P. biaculeatus/maroon clown. Saddle back and percula should be more closely related than ocellaris and maroon, so why not?
