I recently acquired a pair of crosshatches got them Thursday. They came from a diver in Hawaii so I am assuming they are straight out of the ocean. They are FAT looking but I have be unable to get them to eat anything yet. I tried clams, oysters, mussels, mysis shrimp and even some flake food. Any suggestions??? or does it just take some time for these guys to adjust? They are in my 125 QT and so far they look good a couple spots I have to keep an eye on that may be baterial but nothing to concerning.
 
It usually take couple of days to a week for them to settle in from the shipping stress. Once they start coming out to swim thats when they will start to eat. Give it 2-3 days then try a live clam and once they are not picky eaters imo.
 
OK I hope you mean to give it another 2-3 days because it has already been 3 days since I got them.
 
Yes, I meant in another 2-3 days. But if you want you can drop a live clam on half shell tonight and see if it trigger any response. I would stay out of sight, low lighting and leaving it in no more than an hour. If nothing then try again every 2 days. Best thing is to be patient.

Is the pair swimming or just holding in the cave? Usually when they start to come out in the open that's when they start to eat.

Kinda both....They come out a little till they see me then they go in the PVC pipe. This is a QT tank bare with PVC pipe only so no cave:)

I have noticed some strange behavior but I assume triggers act like that. The female was just laying on the bottom wedged between the glass and the PVC pipe. I thought something was wrong so I was looking at her good and noticed her eyes watching me. I left the room and came back an hour later to find the female swimming around and now the male in the same spot and position the female was in. They seem to be coming out more each day. I will try a clam again tomorrow night. Thanks

Triggers love to wedge themselves into gaps and crevices. Some of them sleep like that.
 
Out of curiosity, did you have them shipped overnight freight or fed-ex express (2 days from HI)? The reason I ask, is obviously shipping stresses out fish quite a bit. The longer they are in the bag and in transit, the more stressful it gets. I agree with previous posters to give them a while to settle in, don't stress it yet.
 
We may not hear the good results from folks with Fedex (2nd day) shipping but most of the second day method I hear are negative (mostly DOA or extreme stress). I would only ship with direct airport-to-airport from HI. If I remember right the price was about the same but you do have to drive to the airport and check with airline status prior to going there.
 
Mine go nuts for PE Mysis, Kikari Krill and plankton. I'd bet they will settle down in a day or two.

They were shipped UPS overnight air. They left Hawaii 9:30 Hawaii time on Wed, that is 2:30PM Eastern TIme. I had them at 9AM Thursday. So not a bad time.

How does the group feel about this?

I usually like to wait till the fish are eating before I add any chemicals, unless I see something obvious. These guys are showing no signs of scratching, head shaking,,,,nothing. Should I wait to treat or should I treat now?
 
Hard to say because the flukes sign may not be there but the possibility of internal parasites exist. If it was me I would monitor closely for the next 2 weeks to see if they eat or not. If they're nice and fat then they should be able to hold out on food for 2 weeks.

Yes they are nice and fat....

I will give them another couple days if they don't eat then I may think about doing a prazi treatment.
 
You really should put more structure in there for them to hide in. newly harvested Stressed fish stuck in a tank with nowhere to hide is going to be a tough situation for them to feel comfortable in. I would go pick up some base rock from somewhere and put it in the tank to give them some structure...

I've had no problem getting fish shipped from Hawaii with Fedex 2 day. If it gets shipped on Wednesday it leaves in the afternoon (Hawaii time) and gets to the local Fedex station on Friday at 7:30 AM (Eastern time.) I pick them up right at 8 AM.

I just got my crosshatch's that way 2 weeks ago. Took about a day until they were eating. Male is about 8" and female around 4-5." They come up begging for food now when they see me. They prefer Hikari mysis over anything else.
 
prazipro may further hinder their eating. I'd just wait it out, unless they show signs of parasites, disease.

UPDATE...

Still not eating...Will be a week tomorrow. The male showed a little interest I saw him eating mysis and spitting it back out. Still have not seen the female touch a thing. As you can see in the picture the female has some lymph or something going on. Her tail fin is a little rough but that is how she was when I got her. It does look a little better then it did. I just wish they would start eating soon......

On a sad note I came home today to the chevron tang that was in QT belly up. Not sure what the issue was he was the only one out of the 3 that was eating.

Here are some pictures of the triggers. They look fat......But really need to start eating....
