crvz's hole in the wall

ya ignore my comment above that's what happens when you comment on a form without looking to see how many pages there are on it before you hit post quick reply lol. Tank looks cool. My new question is how is that skimmer doing for you still? I got a Marineland DD 300 as well with a rubbermaid 150g sump in the works. I am going to have to get a skimmer soon and just want to get some info on skimmers before I sell my arm to buy one.

That skimmer is great. Dare I say too much? Considering my relatively light fish load right now it's overkill, but once I get fully populated I think it will be perfect.

Granted this is going way back to when I had a MUCH smaller tank than yours (65 gallons), I had several of them and they were always picking on my other (small) fish. How about a school of Lyretail Anthias? I added three to my tank back in October and love them! I got three females and one is now in the process of transitioning to a male. They have really nice colors and are very peaceful (and not too expensive either).

I'm gonna have to side with Clint... I lean towards the anthias as well. Personally, the only time I would implement damsels would be in a damsel-only system.

Btw, what mini split did you go with and how do you like it? Just curious, I have been looking at them lately myself.

I went with a frigidaire 12000 btu, and I love it. Best decision I've made for the tank in a long time.

I've been looking at dispar anthias. Was thinking about getting 4 or 5 of them. Thoughts on that species?

Ya damsels are a bad call imp. They are mean and have a good possibility of beating up other fish their size, and for a $4-$16 fish beating up/killing a $30-$300 fish that fish cheap *** fish has got to go and meet the porcelain god. Now don't get me wrong there are some great looking damsels that I would jump on and put in my tank but I would make sure all my other fish are at least the same size if not bigger.

That blue jaw trigger went carpet (concrete) surfing. I was shocked. Dunno if it was from a storm last night or what, but I would have never thought that fish would have jumped.

I would like to build a few net covers for the tank. Does anyone have any links to the netting and frame I should use?

Look no further then Brett's build, he just made a great blow by blow documentary of how to make mesh tops for his tank. Very sorry to hear about the blue-jaw, its hard when any fish dies but especially so for one with so much personality.

Bummer that happened Chris. :( As Alex said, I just built screen tops for my tank because my Lawnmower Blenny jumped a week or so ago. I used 1/4" clear netting from BRS. The frame material, .125 gauge spline, and spline roller I purchased at Lowes.

The netting comes in 2 sizes depending on how much you need for your project.

Thanks for the netting tips, I got that install on all the tanks over the last few weeks.

On another note, I saw this fish in my diver's den email this evening. They claim it's a achilles/whitecheek hybrid, and they sold it before I even noticed it for $379. And that's a lot for one fish.

So what say you pepoles of this fish, which I picked up at an unmentionable chain a few weeks ago when I poked in to buy some frozen food on the way home. It had not yet been acclimated and was list as an acanthurus tang for $30. I picked it up because I was intrigued by the orange on the tail. Seems like the same fish, but I was hesitant to call it a hybrid personally.

Thank veloboy!

It looks dang close to me! Either way you got an awesome looking fish. :) Is yours as black as the LA pic?

When it wants to be. ;) It's in a smaller QT that doesnt often have lights on, so it will be slightly grayer when I first turn on the light, but as soon as I drop food in the fish colors up very darkly. I'll be keeping it in QT for a number of weeks before moving it to the stock tank to see how it behaves with other fish. My parameters for allowing a fish into the display have become quite strict.

i went to that same chain store but in a different area today an they had one as well. was selling it as a powder brown tang.
