crvz's hole in the wall

So nice to see things looking up Chris!
We really admire so much about your build and your results. Love the QT fish - hope that they all promote up to the DT. QT is such a chore - we've had a lot of ups and downs in that department - good to see your discipline there.

Why or why are you always like 1000 steps ahead of me? :)

Love the red tail! I'm still vacillating between one of those and a pair of blue thoats again for my new tank.

Everything's looking great though!

Nice Sargassum! Is it a baby?

It's quite small, only about 3". Seems to be eating well thus far, hopefully that will continue.

Awesome fish! Did you build that LED fixture?

Yep. I got it fired up yesterday over the tank and took some PAR measurements. I was really surprised. With them at 100% intensity, I had PAR values of well over 400 at the floor of the tank. Number of over 1700 at the water surface, and I had the fixture about 16" off the water. It is performing considerably better than I anticipated.

It certainly took me a long time and a lot of lessons to become so belligerent about the QT. And I'm sure that, having an almost completely redundant system (120 gallon QT tank with sump, skimmer, heater, lights, controller, ATO, etc.) really add to the success I've had with the current round of quarantine. This sargassum trigger aside (which I placed in a separate tank to keep it from possibly contaminating what I've got going in the main quarantine system), I've got about 12 fish that I've had in QT for over 6 weeks so far. The current plan is to stick them in the display around September 10th, but part of that is due to a planned trip and me wanting to be around to monitor them once they are transferred.

Thanks for all the other comments, I'll try to get some images of the LED fixture fired up in the near future.

Here's the lights on the 40 breeder.

And the fish. These 10 have gotten back up from the hypo treatment to about 1.021. I've only raised it by about .001 per day, as I've had issues when trying to crank it up more quickly. So far so good, but I'll watch them through about mid september before transferring them into the display.

These I got a different time, and theyre in the 40 breeder. I'll be keeping these under quarantine through probably early October. They also seem to be doing quite well.

Well, bad news. White spots on the powder blue this morning. I know I was a little sloppy with different fish coming in and out of the hypo tank, but it had been at least 4 weeks since I had made any changes. Guess that wasn't quite enough. So, today I'll start cupramine in this tank, with regular salinity. Hopefully that will be more effective that the hypo.

You cant treat the tank in hypo or will it affect the fish?

I decided, on a bit of a whim, to pick up a pair of hippo tangs for the 300. They are in the QT that just started the cupramine dosing, so they'll get the full treatment along with the other fish. They are only about 1.25" big each.

But, I now have 16 fish in QT. Five of them will be cleared at the end of the month if they make it through the observation period post cupramine. The other will be another 6 weeks.

Alright, I haven't put new fish in the display for like 6 months. In 5 days I'll have 5 fish finishing a 3 week observation period after having undergone a 26 day cupramine treatment. They look fin, yet I'm still afraid to add them. I guess I won't have any reason not to. Any one else this paranoid of moving new fish from QT to the display?

I think you should go ahead and add a few fish to the display. Your husbandry has been good as far as I have read so there shouldn't be any threat. Go for it.
