Cryptocaryon Irritans - tank transfer method

The only reason ill be using the ammo lock is because I have it at home… Otherwise I would get the other brand….however i would order it online if its an issue using the ammo lock.

Also, I agree, thats weird that they would say that on the label….. so many causes to stress, and that bottle couldn't cure a fraction of those cause lol

Started TTM and just completed the fourth water change. I have been doing changes per recommendations between 6:00 and 7:00am. I had gone away for a long weekend, so I did the water change at 2:00pm when I returned today. I assume I have not screwed up the cycle by doing the change later in the day, and I'm looking for confirmation that this should not require I start over again!

I assume you mean tank changes not water changes? You are still probably fine, but I would be happier if it were a little earlier.

That is sure pushing it... Nearing 80 hours. My personal comfort limit is 75 hours. Up to you, but just saying that I personally would start it over. How many transfers in are you?

I think 75 hours is a better max. And yes, when in doubt, start over. I personally always try to hit the 7-8 AM window. I have to disagree with myself and agree with Spar. :love2:

This was the 4th transfer (day 13)

The one downside to TTM is that if you miss a transfer the clock starts over. The only thing you got going for you on this is that the 4th transfer is generally considered an extra transfer. Timing wise it makes sense but there is a small window where it could be necessary.

Comes down to your call on if you start it over. Everyone has their own tolerance levels to the potential of failing.

Few days ago i was getting great help on this thread regarding the trio of Anthias Lyretail and the TTM.

Well heres what I did so far.

Wednesday- fish came in the mail 11:30am (live aquaria "Divers Den"), placed in first tank
Thursday-
Friday-

Saturday- Fish moved into new tank/water/equipment at 9am
Sunday-
Monday- Fish moved into new tank/water/equipment at 9am

So….the reason I did the transfer one whole day early was because I had some complications with the 2 females, below I have pics. Basically the females both had almost like a white "peeling" on the front fins and 1 of the females in particular stayed at the bottom breathing very fast and heavy…. I figured doing the transfer the following weekend with 24 hour aged salt was a good thing to do along with adding prazi pro to the new transfer. And now the two fish seem to be doing better with fins healing and breathing slowed down although she still hangs at the bottom.

My question is, can I be dosing the PraziPro with each transfer so that the fish continue healing because it seems to be helping (I'm doing all this from some research because no one helped me on my thread http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2414796)

-Also what should my schedule look like from here on out? Do I continue doing transfers every 48 hours of can I go back to 72?

The 1 female showing the "ripped" fins-

The 2nd female which stayes on the bottom and breathes heavy.

Thanks for all the help in advance. I really just want to keep these fish alive until they go into my DT, and Im not very experienced.

yes, you can dose PraziPro while doing TTM. Best administered on transfer 2 and 4. this way you get two 3-day dosings + have 6 days between doses. dosing on transfers 3 and 4 won't do much for you because the fluke eggs may not have all hatched.

you can do any combination of days between water changes you want for TTM, you just have to (1) make sure they add up to 12 days or more, (2) never go over 72-75 hours and (3) ensure you have given the equipment plenty of time to air dry. So as Snorvich said, 2x2x2x2x2x2 works great, as would 1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1 or 3x1x2x3x1x2, assuming for the 1-days you have cleaned and 24-hour dried equipment.

So the simple answer to your question, is yes you can go back to 72 hours, you just may need to do a 5th transfer to get to your 12+ days.

not sure about your anthias, i lost many anthias that had that same fin rotting issue, never found out what it was. how often are you feeding them? because of how often you must feed anthias, ammonia is going to build up quick, so you may be wanting to do interim water changes (not complete transfers, but just replacing with new water) every day or two (more the better); plus make sure you are keeping up with AmQuel/Prime. And they require good oxygen; are you using air stones?

Thanks for the help guys, you answered all my questions and I now understand that I am ok to do 2 or 3 day stays as long as at the end I add up to atleast 12 days. Also, just wanted to clarify something regarding the air dry.... I usually wash the tank/equipment with very hot water (from the tap), then I dry it with paper towels and let it dry over night. That should be good right?

I will keep up with the ammo lock and the prazipro pro. I am feeding mysis shrimp (frozed) and they eat a little at a time. I'm also at a loss of words regarding the fin rot although after adding the prazipro I feel like the fish have improved for sure.

I have had 2 clown fish and a royal gramma in the DT for about 9 months. No other fish. I QTed them when I first got them but that was before I knew about TT method so they only got Prazipro. There have been no signs of any issue.

I just got some more fish that are currently going through TT before moving to the QT for observation and prazipro. What are the chances that I have ich in the DT and have just not seen it yet??

IMO, Very Low. In confined spaces such as our tanks, ich (cryptocaryon irritans) is an overwhelming parasite that increases exponentially over time. You would have seen periodic outbreaks if you had it.

hot water isn't going to kill all/many of the cysts. and the paper towel won't wipe any away and won't necessarily completely dry the tank (will still be some residual water residue, albeit would evaporate rather quickly). hence why the 24 hours of air drying is important. i personally wouldn't trust over-night drying. my process is to rinse out a tank right after transferring a fish to the next tank, that way I get 2-3 days of drying.

Correct. The tank must be completely dry after it is cleaned out.

Yes the tank (bucket or glass) and equipment were cleaned the day I take the fish out with hot water, my house has a tankless water heater and the water ones out almost too hot to touch.... Literally. And then I spread all equipment out on the time floor after hand drying and let them sit there for atleast all day and all night.

I'll add one more transfer step. Not sure this will make any difference, but I don't see any downside.
