Cryptocaryon Irritans - tank transfer method

Oh ok. Just so I understand, ich will still be eliminated. The 3 week period afterward is to see if other ailments will pop up that the copper may have masked.

Correct. Remember TT eliminates ich (cryptocaryon irritans) but not velvet, brook, flukes, or uronema.

Looks fine, but I would always add time afterwards to acclimate fish (eating behavior reinforced) and observe for parasites other than ich.

reading up on this, it seems so simple, yet i've never heard of it before stumbling onto someone's post about TTM.

I'm a ways off from fish, but I have started to think about them.

To make sure that I have this understood.

- 2 10 gallon tanks...I have a 20 G long which is a dedicated QT tank, and will have a sponge filter in the sump to use whenever I need to put something in my QT tank.

- 2 heaters, 50-100W

- No Lights, however they will get normal ambient light from the rooms and such.

- PVC scraps from plumbing build.

Match the salt content of the water the fish came in as close as I can (if mail ordering, not sure how that's possible given that you don't know what the water is like until you get the fish, but that's another story).

Day 1 - Tank 1: Place fish in tank
Day 2 - Tank 1: Add Ammo-Lock (if 1 fish, is it really necessary?) - Feed?
Day 3 - Feed?
Day 4 - Tank 2: Transfer fish to Tank 2, matching water parameters. Dump Tank 1 water, clean out, let dry. Dose Praziquantel?
Day 5 - Tank 2: Add Ammo-Lock (if necessary) - Feed? Dose Prazi?
Day 6 - Feed? Dose Prazi?
Day 7 - Tank 1: Transfer fish to Tank 1, matching water parameters. Dump Tank 2 water, clean out, let dry. Feed?
Day 8 - Tank 1: Add Ammo-Lock
Day 9 - Tank 1: Feed?
Day 10 - Tank 2: Transfer fish to Tank 2, matching water parameters. Dump Tank 1 water, clean out, let dry. Dose Praziquantel?
Day 11 - Tank 2: Add Ammo-lock. Feed? Dose Prazi?
Day 12 - Tank 2: Feed? Dose Prazi?
Day 13 - Transfer fish to main QT tank for minimum 21 days (probably 30).

Do not allow more than 72 hours to pass before transfer.
Make sure everything is cleaned and dry for at least 24 hours between transfers, heaters, lids, pvc....etc.
Transfer as little water as possible
Match salinity and temp.
yes feed.
prime or similar will take care of any ammonia issues.

All my fish that went through TTM ate within a few minutes of the transfer. I do mine at 6 am before work with dim lights. I use slow motions not to scare them. Works very well. Best of luck to you.

Ok.

I am a ways off but this seems like one of them simple steps, you would be an idiot not to do. When you pay 50-60 dollars for a fish, what's 42 days (12 & 30 day qt)

What is worse, do you want the new $50 fish to infect your embedded base of existing fish?

before i get the 2 10 gallon tanks...I can use 2 10's for the tank transfers right? I've read the thread, and people use 2 5 gallon buckets, so I'm assuming 10 gallons would be ok.

i use 10g tanks mostly, but also use 20g and 30g depending on the size of the fish. all that matters is that procedures are followed properly, including 'no more than 72 hours' in a single enclosure, and allowing the previously used containers to dry for more than 24 hours.

This. Size of tank depends on size of fish. In general, smaller is preferred but not for any reason other than logistics.

if small enough and compatible, yes. but in small spaces even docile dish can show a different personality. just keep an eye on them.

So tomorrow will be week 11 of the fallow period. Safe to say it's ok to put fish back in the DT? They both went through the transfer method 6 times and have been in a QT since then.

yep, as stated above. you should be good in a couple days. may as well let the full 72nd day finish up since you have made it this far.

edit: im assuming anyway that you mean the beginning of week 11, not end of week 11... if it is the end of week 11, then you are good now.

Yup it was the end of week 11. I just put in the first fish back in the tank.

If the fish have to be in tank transfer for no more than 72 hours, is there a minimum amount of hours they can be transferred? Let's say 24 hours minimum or 48 but no more than 72?
