Hi Richard,

How are you?
I really want to buy these special Sponge from you.
Please give me an offer via my e-mail.

Thanks,

Doing well thanks......was able to dive last Saturday....has been a terrible winter here this year, lowest water temps I have seen in over 30 years of diving the Gulf. But was actually hot here on Sunday, I feel summer weather on the way again!

Logistics would be tough for shipping to BKK......I am thinking Fed ex priority will be the only effective way for a small package......do you have a fed ex account?

Awesome setup! Very clean; keep us posted with pics!
Thanks! Will do! ;)

My tank looks like a giant turd next to ching chai's amazing tank!!! :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

What mode do you have your vortechs set on ?
Right now they are antisynced on reefcrest mode. But I might try switching the bottom one back to lagoon mode.

Did you setup your remote ATO yet? I'm thinking about doing the same with my mini elos and incorporate kalk stirrer into it. Do you have any idea/thoughts on how you're gonna do yours?
It's my current project actually. I'm in the process and waiting on delivery of some LiterMeter items to create an ATO and a continuous water changes system. Got the two tanks setup and plumbed. I need to now run 3 water lines through the wall and across the room to the tank.

Re: d2mini's 130g Rimless Cube

Can you please elaborate in your plan? Are you gonna intergrate kalk stirrer with your ATO? What type of float switch (if you're using any) to trigger ato? And for the continuous sw changes, how does it work?

I'm also planning to do the same thing. I appreciate that you share the knowledge.

Thank you,
Vince

They're just standard water heater stands.
I don't plan on having leaky tanks so there shouldn't be much potential for rust in the immediate future. ;)
They are super easy and convenient so if they actually do rust down the road, I just buy two more. No biggie and totally worth it.

Getting closer.

Had to empty my sump, disconnect it from the system and pull it out of the way so I could drill another hole in the stand to feed the tubing in.
Blue = fresh RO water
White = freshly mixed saltwater
Black = old skanky saltwater pumped OUT of the sump.

I'll be popping the baseboard molding off the wall and hiding the tubing behind that.
The tubing goes through the wall behind the dining room chair and into the garage to the water tanks.

I love the quote you stated that I highlighted in green......

d2mini: Awesome setup!!!

Just so I understand how your continuous water change is going to work...The remote pump input line will be drawing from your sump sucking out the "skanky water" as you aptly described and the output will be connected to the black line to dump to a drain

The main pump on the LM3 will draw from your freshly made batch of saltwater and pump that into your sump

And you are using the LM3 ATO connected to your ro for evaporation.

Have you figured out what your daily water change regiment will be?

I suppose SG will not be affected all that much taking into account daily evaporation.

Will you also do regular water changes?

I was thinking of setting this up on my system but will follow along to see how it works for you.

The LM3 is a very reliable dosing pump..

Also how is the noise on your vortechs?

Ya, you pretty much got it.
I'm not sure if I'm going to use the LM ATO or not since I already have a dual ATO from autotopoff.com. Do you think the LM one is better? I like that the one dual one i have because it has the second one as a failsafe. But ya, it will be in the sump and controlling the water from my RO tank to replace evaporation.

I have not yet figured out my daily regimen.

The plan is to not do actual water changes except for maybe twice a year.

The vortechs are great. Just a hum.

Thanks d2...

One of my vortechs hums the other wines..... but ecotech is great with customer service.

Your tank in an inspiration and makes me want to get a cube......hopefully it will look as good as yours....

I think the autotopoff.com is a good ATO

I haven't used the spectrapure ATO but have used their dosing pumps which are great. I think the spectrapure also has a safety backup float.

I have a tunze osmolator and have never had a problem in two years.....

Re: d2mini's 130g Rimless Cube

Do you guys think that the old skanky saltwater can be utilized for lawn irrigation?

What to do with all that RO/DI effluent

What to do with all that RO/DI effluent

Wouldn't that kill your grass?

+1

Ocracoke Island (just below Cape Hatteras, NC) installed a new high volume RO system for their municipal water supply a few years back. Took brackish water out of a deep well and made it fresh. Tasted excellent. The RO reject effluent was returned directly to the ocean since it was roughly the same salinity as ocean water. They found that could not use it for anything else - not even irrigation. Since that was roughly the same salinity as reef tank water - it would seem a non-starter for your lawn.

Dennis - I am very interested in your calculated/estimated total volume (gal per day) of old tank water that will have to be disposed. I like the low maintenance aspect of the design - which I realize is your goal. I am curious if there is a net savings or a net cost doing a "trickle" continuous replacement versus a significant % weekly or bi-weekly water change.
Great Thread and beautiful tank.

Your tank is very well thought out. I especially like how you made the dry chamber for the vortex. It sure is nice to be handy.

Thanks. :)
I haven't figured it out yet, but i'm going to probably start with trying to get about 20% per week changed out. If anyone has suggestions on this or how to go about programming this thing, let me know.

Thanks, I'm sure it is nice to be handy. But that would not be me! Someone else designed and built the tank/overflow for me. ;)
