d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

Thanks to Dennis...
Put a piece of dragons breath in and already have visible growth after a couple of days. Otis tougher on the eyes than blue though.

Nice, I'm looking forward to what you can achieve with those radions.

I am also a believer in more wide spread with leds. That was one of the biggest issues with older led fixtures. I think the next hurdle for Leds is true UV spectrum. Most are still using hyper violet diodes instead of true UV.

Super clean setup so far man. Now let's see the aquascaping! Haha

well, you had me at , "i got a call from ecotech" i would have said yes too!

Yup...me too. I was using LED's and was able to get great colors but had really slow SPS growth. I am back to T5 and growth has picked up significantly but I still yearn for those Radions. The colors they throw off just cant be beat. There are most likely Radions somewhere in my future AGAIN.

This will be interesting. I used the Gen 3 Pro's for a while but ended up switching them out for Kessil's. I had 3 main critiques of the Radions.

1) An abundance of riches when it comes to setting the lights. I never felt I could get the right mix/intensity/time frames etc. set right. I find the kessil much easier...again though - that is as more a critique of my ability with them than the actual lights.

2) The disco ball effect.

3) I really felt the mounting system was junk for two lights (I did not use the RMS rail). I hung them from the ceiling and the weight of the power cord was always pulling them off center/at an angle. Plus the power cord always looked sloppy. This isn't purely a Radion fault though as a lot of light fixtures have this fault. I really think the Kessil goose neck is superior in this regard.

I love my MP40's though and am thinking about the vectra pump.

Regardless of my thoughts on the radions...the idea that Ecotech called you up and asked you to use them is pretty bad ***!

Ecotech is smart. Think of how many units they'll sell now. This thread has 450 posts and 35k views. And there is not even water in the tank!!

Ecotech if you're reading this I can't afford enough fixtures for my tank but I'd love to try the new pros too!!

Guys, I appreciate your enthusiasm, truly I do.
I said this was a joint experiment between Ecotech and I, but nowhere did I state that these were given to me for free.

valid point.

I do think it will be a great experiment though.

All of your builds have received extensive review and following. With different types of setups for each, it will be a very good perspective and opportunity to see how they each run different.

My tank has similar dimensions than yours and I've been running the SPS AB+ program at 65% approx 9.5" from the water for the past 3-4 months now and I've had positive results so far with my mixed reef and the uv really makes everything pop during the last half of the light cycle. I only have 2 radion pros and I have them hung long ways

sorry to side steal Dennis

I'm running the LPS/softies mixed reef.

My setup includes 2 SPS, 2 LPS and about 5 frags/colonies of zoa's and GSP. Think im good on the LPS schedule? or should I move to a different one?

Where are you guys getting the SPS AB+/LPS lighting schedules from?

It is still a nice kudos that a manufacturer reached out to you.

How/where are you mounting the Radion transformers? I didn't see them in your sump.

The Radions no longer use the large white power supplies, and have switched to 7"x3" black bricks.
You can see the three of them mounted to the board between the Vectra controller and the battery backup.
This was a WELCOME change for sure.
