d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

Awesome. Dennis, I am really looking forward to seeing how the outdoor space is completed. I am betting the wife makes you make the shed prettier to go with her fabulous new outdoor living area.

Helloooo? :) no worries, I'll just sit ignored and sad...
The house is so pretty. I can not wait to see how it all comes together. Are you guys going to make a pretty outdoor space?

Did you go powermodule or sunpower?

That'd be a powermodule. And it's sexy as hell.
Yup! Very nice looking fixture. I haven't opened the second box with the controller portion yet. :)

hahahaha, sorry! I read it but forgot to reply. ;)
Mrs d2mini is "fine" with the shed as-is. The color was a joint decision and we already had the furniture from our last house. I don't see anything else changing right now other than some minor stuff that's more cleanup than anything else. But we do plan on re-doing the front yard which is very embarrassing at the moment.

I totally agree with you, the blue stays. Do you happen to know the specific color of it? I've been looking for one just like that but bold turquoise can go wrong very quickly

It's Behr Marquee paint from Home Depot and the color is called Fiji.
Before i laid down the paint I used Rustoleum Restore Cleaner and then I rolled on a thick coat of Rustoleum Deck Start primer.

The Planet tank was pretty nice. Had some nice design features like the perimeter bracing with inset rail for a screen top. The silicone wasn't 100% bubble free, but not bad. When I tore it down we did find out that some water made it's way between the top layer of pvc and middle layer of glass of the hyrbid bottom.
What??? That's scary. I guess the glass part hold up... that's not good at all. Which builder are you going with this time for your tank? Sorry if you had posted that. I didn't see it scrolling through the build. :)

Amazing work like usual.

Can't wait to see how your tank turns out. I've been playing with T5 bulbs and light settings myself. I started with too much intensity and too many white T5's. I've slowly been scaling down and changing out white T5's for other colors.

Curious to see where you end up.

Dennis, why T5 this build over the halides?

Corey

Hi Corey,
Here's my reasoning...

1. I needed something a little more sexy. :p
2. There's not a lot of non-led sexy out there. Geisemann is an obvious choice but this tank is a quite deep front to back so I wanted something with more than 4 t5 bulbs. One mh and 4 t5 has good spread and probably would have been ok, but I wanted to try a bit more for even better coverage. ATI is the only fixture I saw that was offering more than 4 bulbs.
3. I was never a fan of all t5 tanks due to the lack of shadows and shimmer. But I did like the coral colors that some achieved that seemed to be unique with T5 tanks. After seeing this fixture over a few tanks, it seems that the addition of the leds helps somewhat in that respect.
4. I don't want to run a chiller on this system due to the lack of space so less heat will be a nice bonus.

Did you keep your lifereef skimmer or are you going a different route?

Kept it. It's the 30" though so I have a feeling I made need to get the 24".
Won't know for sure until the tank and stand arrive.
Luckily a local club member has a 24" he's getting ready to replace so I can pick that up from him if I end up needing it. :)

UPDATE 3-31-16

I seem to have a thing for laser cut logos.
My GHL Doser 2 arrived!
I will be running Triton on this tank so this will be used to dose the Triton Elements.

You have the skill of being able to pretty much take a picture of anything and making it an interesting photo to look at.

I bet you could even make a close up of egg crate look amazing! Haha kudos

Glad I found this thread at the start! Your attention to detail is allways an inspiration. I look forward to following the progress. Are you going to be going with "The Package" again?
