d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

Hey Dennis notice you have the GHL doser, I just received my doser 2.1 a couple of days ago and man is it an impressive unit. Quick question, on the outline do you notice that the line itself doesn't 'fill' entirely with the dosing solution or is it just me?

This is my first doser by the way so forgive my question if the answer is obvious.

Reef keeping is life!

Normal.
As long as you've gone through the calibration process and it's dosing the correct amount, it doesn't matter. If air can get in the output line (from the open end) it won't look filled.

How soon will we see you switch from Radions to Mitras on the main tank lol?

haha, maybe when the Radions stop doing this in just a couple months. ;)

Nice! Maybe you can make a setup walk through (everyday Reefer?) so I can learn how to setup mine [emoji4]. One slight disappointment was learning that the software is not compatible with MAC [emoji33][emoji33]!! How is that possible? Am I going to have to fowl my shiny new MacBook pro with (🤢!!) windows10???

Blue Plate Coral that I've had for like 6 years. :)

Always love your photos Dennis, but the composition of this one bugs me. Crop it to put the mouth in the center please (then the rest will be in sharp focus), or put in on a third boundary. Its jarring as it is there :)

I'll see what I can do. It could use a simpler "out of the box" tutorial to get you up and running.
Let us know what you think about it, I have in in the mail as we speak

I was hoping it was going to be as simple as exporting my old P3 settings and uploading them to the P4 and fixing minor things. But of course it didn't work out that way. First, uploading took at least 30 minutes because it kept hanging up in Illumination channels and then i'd finally get the error message where it would allow me to click "ignore" and move on to the next. And then once loaded, most settings were missing. The only thing that seemed to hold were the assigned sockets, but even those had the wrong settings. In other words, it was still labeled as "skimmer" but was set to Illumination instead of Always On or whatever I had it set to previously. Timers were gone. Probe settings were gone. Pretty much everything had to be reconfigured so make sure you have a good hour or two set aside to mess with it. Luckily, once you are connected to wifi and all your accessories are connected, it's so easy to program it goes real fast.

LOL! Critique taken. ;)
Although... even though I'm not a rules kind of guy, I could say this photo is following the rule of thirds. haha :D

So after a couple weeks of treating the tank with DinoX for the dinos in the display and a dose of Fluconazole prior to that for the HA in the refugium, I can say that the dinos is almost completely gone from the display and the refugium is VERY clean.
Here's a before and after of the fuge.
Not that neither treatment affected the macros.

Both the display and refugium are on severely reduced light cycles for a few days and I'll start ramping back up.
Continuing to try and blow leftover snot off the rocks and sand in the display.

Nitrates have been holding steady at ~5 ppm on their own, no need for dosing.
I've increased my fish load a bit so that may be helping and not sure what else is going on chemically in the tank between the algae and the chemicals.
I did do a 45g water change this weekend and plan on doing another this coming weekend.

My TCK highlighter seems to be the one sps to take a major hit during all of this.
A few others have dulled out a bit.
And as far as inverts go, the urchins are dieing off one by one. Not sure about my shrimps, snails and hermits yet.

As long as the algae is gone I'm happy. Can always order more crew.

All other parameters seem to be right on target, so hopefully a few rounds of large water changes will help get more junk out of the water and get things back on track.

Are you still impressed with the G4Pros? I'm on the edge of making the switch to LEDs with my new build. The new UV channels really seem impressive. I'm looking at a 42" tank, do you think 3 units would be necessary like you're using, or do you think 2 would suffice? Thanks!

I'm running three turned front to back because of my tank's deep dimension.
If you have a more standard sized tank, 2 should be fine running them lengthwise.

My urchin started losing spines within hours of my first Dinox dose. I quickly removed him and put him into my other tank and he grew all the spines back. They don't do well with Dinox for sure.

At any given time I was able to count 12-16 of them, various sizes.
Now I see maybe a 2-3 and in bad shape.
I've done a couple large water changes after completing the DinoX treatment and will be doing at least one more.
More urchins coming next week along with some other clean up crew.
I'm not seeing my serpent stars in the display but they could be hiding. It's unusual though, as they are usually active when I feed the tank.
The one in my fuge is still kicking.

I also had mass die off of micro brittle stars... like the morning after my first dose of dinox there were hundreds of them flying around in the tank and collecting in deadspots... This stuff does not mess around.

Did you ever ID your dino species? I've been dealing with an ostreopsis species for quite a while but they have really started to die back after I let the nutrients go way up and started dosing phyto to boost pod population.

My tank is fallow now for ich and I'm honestly considering doing the bleach dosing that has tons of praise on the "other" forum.
