*d2mini's new 200g Reeftastic Build*

Thanks for the short-cut to the right page. Might've been here all afternoon looking for that. ;)

You've definitely given me something to think about. A Cebu 175w x 4T5HOs would, I think, do nicely over a 24x24" 50 gallon. Just have to consider whether I'd need a chiller or not during the summer (maybe not - the tank's rimless with no canopy and an open sump).

Just out of curiosity... Have you noticed if things in the fish room have started to be pulled towards the cheato? You might want to trim that thing before its gravity sucks your house into it.

Wow...I arrived to your tank thread from the lifereef page but did not expect a near 300pg thread...wow.

I will check through it as I'm loving how incredibly clean and purposeful everything looks.

Maybe get pointers if I ever get a house!

Thanks! Welcome aboard.

Here's a random vid... the red brittle star who happened to be the very last inhabitant in the holding tub. Yet another star from one of my past Tampa Bay Saltwater shipments like a year ago. I have so many other serpents and sea stars in the display tank so I figured for now I'd toss him into Mangrove Hill. ;)
I think he's a little bummed with all the light and nowhere to hide though. I may move him into the frag tank where's the more shadows and a bigger piece of rock.

Anyway, here's the vid. I love watching these guys move around.

Made my way through this beast over the last few nights...quite the read. I'm not sure which is more impressive, the display tank, or the fish room! Well done and thanks for sharing.

They are always looking. I feed mine a squirt of mysis all to its self sometimes, give it a treat for always hiding.

You mentioned you weren't impressed with the build quality on the Gyre, and that you wouldn't purchase another one right now. You also have mp60's right? Would you say the mp60 is a better pump?

I wanted to run dual gyres in our 8' tank, but I keep thinking about what you said. Personally I would much rather pay for a quality item once than buy a low quality one twice.

No comparison in quality, but you kinda have to expect that from Maxspect and the price point. The problem is the Gyre and Vortechs are two completely different kinds of flow. I ended up getting a Tunze 6105 for the other side. Sticks out more in the tank, but less outside the tank. It's completely quiet and the flow is really good (similar to vortechs). Just not as wide as the Gyre. Can be pointed in different directions. And the quality feels on par with the Vortechs. Time will tell.
