*d2mini's new 200g Reeftastic Build*

Reminded me of the plastic bag scene from American Beauty.... HAHA!!
Ha! That's one of my favorite movies. :D

OK that is the one I was looking at. Thanks...

Yeah it is moving... with its own gravity and 3 million pod inhabitants.

That is not a moon, that is a death star.

Lol. That cheato is ridiculous! I can't believe it still tumbles..
Believe it. I'm going to get another vid. ;)

great thread, following along
Welcome aboard!

Quick question in the lifereef overflow! I know you haven't had it to longg yet but I am thinking of getting a HOB overflow for my 40g breeder and was wondering how silent it is? And have you checked to see how it restarts in case of a power outage? Thanks and beautiful setup you got going, one of the threads I check daily!

The quietness of the overflow all depends on how it's plumbed. Many factors will alter the noise. Jeff even sells a silencer separately if you end up needing it.
Mine are not silent as-is but it doesn't matter to me being in the fish room. I already have plenty of noise in there so it all just blends together, lol.

It restarts every single time. Every time I feed, the main system pump gets turned off. So at least once per day.

Dennis after reading through this thread you have convinced me when I move to buy refrigerum. What do you think is a better export:
Mangoves
or a variety of macro algae?

The variety of macros would be better than the Mangroves.
Mangroves are extremely slow growing.
The best thing by far for nutrient reduction is Chaeto... or an algae scrubber.

Thanks for your response!
I have a 36 gallon display tank so I might get a 40 breeder and set up a frag/refugem this should help especially if I want sps. I may also look into an algae scrubber.

The view to the left. In the far distance is where the shoreline turns and you can see normal trees.

Might be enough mud for your next Mangrove tank build

And this is why I love mangroves!

Looks great Dennis!!! Love the mangroves! I put my par meter 3" under the floralux and got par readings of 2200! That thing is a beast!

Hi Dennis - It's been quite a while since I checked out your build thread; imagine my surprise to see you'd switched out your tank in toto. I've read backwards for 25 pages or so, and I promise to keep reading, but mind if I ask you a couple of summary questions?

Why'd you change out your display tank? Seems like it's about the same size as the other one.

And, I remember when you first started the build thread, you were using Radions (Gen 2, if I recall). But I see your tank now runs MH and T5HO. What did you not like about the Radions? I ask because I was thinking of getting in the car in 15 minutes and heading down to a high-functioning LFS to buy a Radion G3 Pro and mount. It would replace 2 AI Vega Colors over my 50g cube. My reason is that I've just not had consistent growth/coral health, with many of the corals coming from MH in the LFS losing their green/red/purple pigments and "browning up". That's despite near perfect water and flow conditions. Frags of these same colonies do extremely well in my 20g nano lit by 2 65w PC fluorescents.

My take is that the Vegas lack both UV and Violet spectrums, while the G3 Radion Pros have both. I considered updating the Vegas to Hydra 52s, but after reading about the lack of deep blues and the resulting color appearance (and seeing them for myself), I'm thinking that the Radion is a better option.

Yet, your thread's giving me pause. I'd also considered going to an 8-bulb ATI 24" T5HO fixture, but I'd rejected the idea because of tank accessibility and (potentially) heat problems.

Your thoughts?

Your pictures seem to always get better!

that is on Pointe La Rose in Martinique. Just got back from visiting my family.
Thanks!
Your family is in Martinique?
I think I officially hate you. lol

I think the spectrum is mostly fine.
I just think I would have needed twice as many to properly light my tank. I only had 4. This completely negates any savings from bulbs and electricity.
You'll want to go back to here...

And the old tank was scratched.
