Dan, let's schedule some time, I wanna check out your tank.
Leo, not much to see except for sick (as in not healthy) acros.:(

Thats possible that the container was contaminated. How do you ship the water sample to AWT?
I don't think so Ramzy. AWT sends two bottles for your samples.

Sorry to hear about your other losses, I also got your pm and I sent you a reply. Hope everything gets back to normal soon.

Michael
Thanks Michael, I'm just hoping for them to stabilize. Getting back to where they were seems like a long way away at the moment.

Well if something can go wrong"¦Still seeing that the acros were still not doing well I picked up some salinity calibration fluid to double check my refractometer. The reading I got from the 35 ppm calibration fluid was 30 ppm!:eek2: So I did a 10 gallon water change using higher salinity water to slowly bring my tank back up to 35 ppm. As of this morning the salinity was 33ppm and I'll do another water change tonight. I'm adding three more coral colonies to the watch list: Hawkins, Lime in the Sky and Ultimate Stag. Strangely enough, except for the Hawkins, the larger colonies do not seem to be affected"¦yet. Pretty soon I will have a LPS and fish only tank.:sad1:

I'm confused...

If 35ppt calibration fluid = 30ppt
Then 40ppt tank water measured 35ppt with the uncalibrated fracto. Actual tank salinity is high, wouldn't you have to bring the salinity down not up?

Dan, sorry to hear of continuing problems. I keep two refractometers myself. It would be too much of a coincidence if both are out of calibration, not that it couldn't happen.

Leo, that's a good point. Unless Dan calibrated using the fluid and the tank water read at 30???

I have always calibrated my refractometer with RODI water. That is something that I double check once a month.

Sorry for being unclear. The refractometer read the 35 ppm calibration fluid at 40 ppm and after calibration the tank read 30 ppm.

Update. It appears that my tank is stabilizing (knock on wood). I feel like such a rookie allowing my equipment to get out of calibration. This has taught me a lesson, unfortunately at the cost of several colonies and frags. I **think** the worse is over as I see no new recession and the tips of my Lime in the Sky are turning blue again. I still have a few mini-colonies that have damage but hopefully they heal over the next few weeks.

Good to hear thing are settling down.

Thanks Brian, Michael, Dave...Man there was a moment there where I wondered if it would stop. If I'm lucky I have corrected the issue and won't repeat this mistake again. I'll just make some other mistake. :p I'll get a picture of the tank up this week. Good news is I have some room now, IE CFM is this week and the wife is out of town.:D

Thanks Kenny but I don't know if I have any mojo to give you. My issues were due to poor husbandry practices. I would guess that your issues are based on some sort pathogen/bacteria/virus or buildup that was unavoidable, at least to the extent of normal hobbyist practices. Here's hoping that both of our tanks turn around soon.

Lucky you, your wife is going to be gone for that show. Bad news for me, my girlfriend is coming back from her vacation tonight. So I have to be sneaky when trying to get some of your corals Dan. LOL, hopefully she will like it so much, the price wont scare her. How are those peices that you have for me doing?

Pieces are doing great Michael. Are you planning on going to IE CFM or are you working that day?
