Dave's 1st Gig - Purple

I never stopped the Cipro.
I did a water change as soon as everyone did not to treat with the othe antibiotic.

I had also increased the light intensity. Not sure if that affected it. But I have kept up with water changes. And Cipro doses.

I would not increase light intensity. I would actually lower it or shorten your photoperiod. For the gigs that I've treated, they seem to inflate during the day, then at the same time every day, begin to deflate. I think there is a direct correlation with the zoox getting too much light -- essentially they reach their maximum capacity -- then the gig deflates. When I say "too much" I mean capacity and not intensity.

I've kept another batch of gigs in a tank that was never brightly lit, and one gig never needed treatment, while the other partially deflated. I'm treating that one just in case.

Your gig does not look that bad, and if you haven't changed antibiotics already, you may consider continuing your current protocol. Partially deflated is completely different than fully deflated, where it looks almost dead and lifeless. If it was ever fully deflated, then I would consider changing antibiotics. Of the four I currently have, two are now in the DT (one was in Septra treatment while the other never needed treatment).

What about the gaping mouth? Less concerning than deflating?

I'm just continuing with cypro for now.
I did turn the lights back down after it looked bad earlier today.
I have them at 10% blue and 10% white.

I'll shorten the light period tomorrow.

So all four have made it so far Dnak?
That's great!
Can't wait to see their colors come out.

I could consider the mouth simply "open". When discussing Tridacna, many refer to gaping as when the mouth (actually the inhalent siphon) is open too wide, as if the clam has lost its ability to close it. In terms of anemones, I try not to use the word "gaping" unless it has this same appearance -- open too wide and loose. An open mouth is fine. The gigs I've had in the past all opened their mouth from time to time, and it's normal.

Deflation is a much bigger concern than an open mouth. Healthy gigs never deflate.

I'll take a few photos of my gigs and update the thread tonight. It seems like the antibiotic makes the bleaching worse, so the colors are muted.

I can confirm that. My pale green/tan baby gig became bleached yellow after I treated with Cipro for 5 days. It's been in the DT for 2, still inflating and 1/2 deflating.

IME, Gigantea's mouth can be open for a long time, months. It does not mean that he is is sick. Often with treatment the anemone bleached. I am not alway sure that this is because the treatment or just over all condition of the anemone. Certainly I have treated anemone and they don't be bleached, at least not completely. The "rat poop" black that we talking about are zooanthelae.
I give my anemone under treatment bright light but not really bright light like in DT. This works for me. I have a 40 W 10,000K flood LED that I used as light over a 20 gal tank which I use for treatment. This seem OK most of the time for my anemone.
Regardless, I don't think bleaching anemone is to bad of a problem. I prefer that they don't get bleached but I can deal with bleaching easy enough IMO/IME.

I think most bleach due to overall condition. However, I do believe some have bleached from the antibiotics and poor tolerance to the drugs, but I can't prove either one. I really would like some hard facts as to why they bleach. Wish more marine biologist would study Gigantea and provide us with good documentation.

His mouth is open but he appears to be inflated for the most part. I think he's gonna do just fine. He really doesn't look that bad. Just keep treating and don't stop until he has looked great for 3-4 days consistantly.

Good luck! He's gonna be a nice one.

Thanks for the positives. Time for another water change. The water goes fast. I'm down to 35 gallons.

That new salt better get here soon. I hate getting ripped at petco. ;)
