Dave's 1st Gig - Purple

It has lost a lot of color but seems to be responding very well to the Spectrum antibiotic. It looks so much better than I've seen it before.

I'm trying not to get t excited. But wow! What a difference today.

ok....he's responding. Keep doing everything the same and dose the exact amount he respoded to everytime now. I think he'll make it. just keep the tank clean. watch how he's responding to lighting and flow. keep us updated.

When you dose the Septra, Just keep it the same and if he's not doing well bump it up to double the dose that your currrently using.

I use 800mg/160mg per 10/G.

Good luck with him. He's looking much better.

"Fresh water" They seem to really love it.

+1. I agree. I'm glad it's responding to the new medication. I am now having a lot better results with Septra than Cipro as well.

Septra works best if you use it first.

Out of about 14 Magnifica I've treated with Septra "2nd" (after Cipro) they did not respond. Only 1 out of 14 responded.

When I use Septra 1st I see much better results.

Uh-oh... Are you saying that 13 didn't make it? :uhoh2:

I agree though -- IME the second antibiotic perks up the nem, but then it goes downhill and doesn't make it. I hope in this case it's different.

Most made it, I've had a few die on me out of those 14.

I ended up stopping Septra after 36 hours on most of them and switching back to Cipro and increasing the dosage on some.

Most that didn't seem to respond ended up getting better with tedious care for days on in. Lots of Water changes, and flow & light variations.

After it was said and done, I'm not sure if it was all the back breaking work and infant care, or the increased Cipro dosage that pulled them through.

Prolly a lil of both.

Maybe I'm a little off kilter here as I have only been following this forum religiously for about 2 months, but is it starting to seem like the Gigs are responding better to SMZ & TP (Septra) and the Mags to Cipro, or do we not have enough evidence yet to start making those kinds of hypotheses?

I'll keep a close eye on it

I've dosed one tablet with each water change.
That's what I plan to continue doing.

Since I switched to Septra the gig has responded very well. Initially there was still some discharge and pellets. But no deflation. It has not deflated since the antibiotic change. Still dosing 1 tablet at each water change and I'm down to 1 daily water change that I do just before lights out.

When I turned the lights on yesterday morning he began to eject a milky substance that lasted somewhere around 1 minute. I assume it was spawning? Quite odd.

HOORAY FOR CONTINUED INFLATION! Oh sorry I forgot, let's not get too excited. Hooray for continued inflation!

Will do.
I'll try tomorrow.
Thanks for all of your help Jared.

no problem, just trying to help them all live.

I lost my fist blue gig, so I know what it's like.

Usually if the nem will eat, they are doing much better.

It's been my experience that a sick new won't eat.

I fed the gig a small piece if squid. It worked the chunk to its mouth eventually.
I completed a 100% water change this evening and dosed one tablet of Septra.

Not sure how much longer to keep dosing the Septra. I'm thinking at least 7 - 10 days altogether.
