My haddoni's have not minded flow as long as they had a nice protected hard substrate under the sand. I'd clear sand to the bottom, place some 10lb rocks in a circle, insert the anemone, and back fill with sand after a few minutes

Dug up a link in the archive to the haddoni that would have it's oral disk lifted in both directions with each cycle of the Tunze stream, it stayed there until I moved it:

Nice idea, Scott. I moved the anemone and he had grabbed hold of one of my algae clips as a base support:lol: I cleared as much sand in a 4"x4" space as I could, still some crumbs down there, but it took it to the glass. I will give him some time and then get the sand pushed back over the foot. Good idea.

On the light acclimation, I think the two screens is a bit too dark. Any harm keeping him under my lights as is? He is back in the rocks a bit and doesn't look to be getting blasted with light.

Too dark?!! Just think how dark 3 would have been.


There is a chance (( and I good one at that, if memory serves about what lights you have )) that you could end up causing it to bleach. Personally, with all the stress of shipping and being in a new tank, I wouldn't want to possibly add to it by not acclimating it to your lights.

I am leary with this anemone because the last two anemones I tried both died (Gigantea). Here was the blue one:

That is right, I remember that.

Thing is, Gigs are really poor shippers, compared to Haddonis, and they also love light. Haddonis love light too, but don't need it as intense as Gigs.

I have noticed that all of my Haddonis settle in faster/better when I acclimate them to the lights.

I think you will be fine not acclimating to your lights. At DFS they have the specs for the lighting it has been under and its fairly intense. IME its important to acclimate to lights when the anemone has come directly from the wholesaler or from an LFS where it has been under inferior lighting such as PC's or VHOs.

I "settled" for a Haddoni because I watched three gorgeous specimens come and go in a short time. Dr. Mac took the hit and gave me credit, but I felt responsible because I ordered truly next to impossible species.

I think where the anemone is currently located between the rocks and back a bit that the light he is receiving is not that much. He may decide to move out further if/when he is ready, but for now I am pretty comfortable with the little light he is getting.

Scott's method of clearing the sand and getting to the glass worked like a charm:thumbsup: He is anchored to 3/4" float glass already

I also now see the mouth and it is nice and tight. There are tentacles all the way up to about 1/2" of the mouth which is another good sign. Also, the anemone stuck to me and everything it touched really good.

I noticed that the Gigantea's have been rolling in to several suppliers here lately and I have been following the threads folks put up. I would say that 8 in 10 die within a month from what I have read lately. That is bad odds

I also noticed that a few vendors don't carry the Gigantea anymore, probably due to their poor survival rate and financial loss they incur on the internet sites. The ones that do sell them online (for the most part) don't offer a guarantee which is a $200 crapshoot on the part of the reefer.

No it has planted its foot nicely. Mine isn't as dark green as yours but has alot of white on it.

I will run down in a few and shoot some picks.

I had turned on my power heads a little while ago and it seemed to make it mad.

Might want to change the flow so they don't hit it too much. Mine told me right away it was in too much current. I turned my powerheads off for several hours until it got back where it wanted and attached.

No it hasnt moved yet..Today it does look a little lighter in color so I put window screen over the top of that side of the tank.

When I was trying to get mine out of the bag it got totally stuck to my hand when I tried to get it out of the bag.

Mine is looking great today, just got home from work and the mouth is fine and the anemone is in that same spot and appears to be anchored to the glass firmly.

I feel the same. I tried several Gigantea MO and ended up with zip. I tried a few Gigantea from LFS when I can see one. finally I got one blue Gigantea that live. I feel that I am so lucky.

Well, he is looking good again this evening. He is still in the spot he was in yesterday and mouth is tight and looks normal. I will shoot a picture tomorrow afternoon or evening. I haven't fed him yet, any thoughts on when I should give him some mysis or other shrimp/scallops?
