DD Haddoni.

Pfft, all good here Dave :)

Natural position for haddoni is to have column buried in sand, but the pedal disk attached to hard substrate.

The ones I have had stay in one location the longest had their foot up underneath a very large rock(10lbs+) and the tank bottom simultaneously; with the column covered with sand. If the rocks moved, they would push it right across the tank floor.

Be cautious with rock design, they will tumble the structure. I'll see if I can find the pictures of my old one that moved the big rocks around.

sorry to hear this thing is moving on you. when my anemone moves it freaks me out. good luck man and i hope all the best for you.

believe me i tried everything people on this RC suggest and at the end my carpet would decide on it's own............. they know better what they want. sometime you think they are stupid but they are not :D

what i did was surround tthem with rocks like those military sandboxes and somehow that makes them feel like home

just dont feed it yet as it is still weak from all the stress caused by shipping and you

Well, he is almost all the way under the rocks now, so I guess I will just leave him be. If it is lighting issues, then maybe he will slowly come out as he wants? All the rocks in this tank are 20-30 pounders except for one or two 5-10 pounders right above him:rolleyes:

Found my rock mover, it easily moved around the 10lb rock through 3" of sand until it wedged up against another pile. Ironically it is the same anemone I posted earlier in this thread, but this is in a smaller tank prior to getting blasted by 400wt XM 20K's for a long time and turning blue :D

fwiw Dave, light may be a bit much, but I find they will close early and start opening after lights out if they are getting over exposed vs. just letting go.

Holy cow, that thing is a MONSTER! I really like those ?Cardinalfish too:)

I guess I am just worried about his foot being unattached. I would feel a lot better about this if he would attach. After losing three beautiful Gigantea's several months ago, I am getting pretty uneasy now.

Haddoni is quite different then Gigantea, as long as they are not turning inside out, showing damage on the column, bleaching overnight, etc., they'll linger on quite awhile until you can tweak the environment. They showing you they are upset by letting go, moving, letting go, shrinking(consumption), and letting go.

My concern is the first couple of weeks, Haddoni can still be quite touchy, seemingly fine but then pull the pucker up and turn inside out games. Let yours move where it wants for now, but make sure you can get at it if you need to take action.

can't remember if it was mentioned, but IME, my nems seems to settle down because of the current when added, then they pick their exact spot based on what flow I am giving them. changing flow, even as innocuous as cleaning power heads, can precipate a change in position (a couple inches). if it is still heading into the rocks, I wouldn't sweat it for now. if it rolls around the aquarium all night - then I'd start to worry. I would also be on the lookout for any frags - my gig ATE a 3" echinata frag. the frag was too big to spit out, so there is sat in/out of its mouth on the pedal disk for two days. When I would try to tweezer it out, it would feel me tug on the branches snagged in its mouth and violently shrink down. So I would be watching things like that, too.

As far as building a pile - I have found sometimes the haddonis I have kept would just squeeze through the openings until the current blew them on down the tank. IMO, let it roll around if you can, when it feels the right amount of current it will put its foot down.

Well, came home from work tonight and he is still under the rocks, notably shriveled up and his mouth is open about 4" and doesn't look good. I will get a picture of him tomorrow morning when I have more time, but it doesn't look like he will make it:(

Wow, sorry do hear that Dave. Is the mouth just open, or open and protruding.

Meaning, does it look at all like this? (( hope not, because this one went down hill fast after looking like this ))

Mine looked much worse than that. Probably 4" of mouth protruding at least and the anemone is shriveled in size down to about 6" across versus the 12"+ it was when I got him. I guess I will see how he looks tomorrow, but it doesn't look good at all:(

Sorry Dave, but that doesn't sound good. I wouldn't pitch it yet, but I also wouldn't have my hopes up either.

This is how the above one looked when I tossed it,

Mine is not quite that bad. I would say 3-4" is out.....he is in a spot where it is tough to get a picture but I am reluctant to bring him out from under the rocks he is located in.
