Hello all. Thought I might as well start a build thread here on RC.
Thanks to all for the info that can be found here in this forum.

I'll start with the tank.

Miracle 84x18x18 rimless
3 sided Starphire 3/4 glass.
Bean animal internal overflow drill with 4 holes. One for return.

After shutting down my 150 peninsula, we moved into our dream bungalow.

After taking possession of the new house, it was time to get down and dirty.
We ended up bridging the two homes for a month while I was lucky enough to do all the reno lol.

This is how our home looked before the demo
file-26.jpg

Here is where the tank is going. On the left between two windows on the long wall. We had to raise the floor :hammer::hammer::hammer:

Here's a pic from the back of the house. The wall on the right with the two sided fireplace was taken down.

More to come :)

Continued....

Demo day.

Here's the tank proposal I summited to the wife 6 months ago. I got a huge "we will see" kind of a response lol

So after a long 4 week reno I made some progress. Here's our view from our foyer.

And from the back of the house

I will add more pictures we I get some more time.
BTW tank should be here next week. I'll post my stand design later as well

thanks

Your peninsula tank looked great, so I am sure this one will be awesome too! Nice new home. Congrats! What other equipment are you planning on using?

Thanks man. We really come a long way with the house.
Plan on being here for a while.

My last tank was sps dominated and That pic was just after
Clearing out a lot of pieces in anticipation of the move.

As for equipment, it's a lot of carry over from my last one. But here goes

Lighting
ATI Sunpower 4 bulb for now. Got a good deal on it. Hoping it
Will be fine considering my dimensions

Flow
2 mp40 es. On opposite ends.
Blue line hd50 or a dc pump for return. I haven't decided yet.
I may have to add a few small power head in The middle of the
Tank.
Reef keeper elite with net

Filtration
120 gallon sump
Vertex alpha cone 250
Ghl 3 way doser
2xtlf reactors for carbon and gfo
Ro unit with direct ato floats

I think that's it. Keeping it pretty simple and using tried and true
techniques

Brilliant work. You must be a top notch chippy! The house looked good before, now it looks amazing. Look forward to seeing this progress Dan

Keeping with the modern design of our home I've designed a few different stands. My sump is located in the basement, so there is' no need for the closed stand look that is so common these days.

We wanted an airy, sleeking look that's more of a piece of furniture. Something that's going to tie in with our kitchen design.

So after days for searching the interweb :spin2: for inspiration, I've come up with a few ideas. I really liked the look of this bench. Not sure what it was, but I liked the simplicity of the look. So in the later I designs this stand

INSPIRATION

THE DESIGN 1.0

We really liked the design and it fitted out needs, but a few issues arouse while going over the design with my builder.

First off, I was really concerned with the possible bowing in the middle of the stand from he weight of the tank. Using more material to create strong joist really added to the cost of the stand considering i didn't want to use construction grade lumber that can lend to warping etc.

Secondly, I realized i didn't have any room for storage for my fish S#&% as my wife would call it lol

And finally, I still had to hide the drains and return pipes. Something that might look odd even if I just capped it some how. Needless to say, we didn't use this design :uzi:

file-45.jpg

So back to the drawing board, literally. This time, I had a better idea of our needs. I remembered when we were designing our kitchen, we were going to
do an island with legs on one end. We didnt go this route due to the decrease in storage. So I've decided to use it in my stand design.

Design 2.0

In this design I eliminated the center-less post issue. I've also added a lot of storage and the drains will be concealed within the stand.

So after mulling over the design for a few days, I've come up with the final design. Moving a few things around and this is it. Finally getting built as I type.

Stand design 2.1 :smokin:

file-43.jpg

The only difference from these pics to the actual stand is I had to move the center door over a bit more to house the drains properly.

Seen here design 2.1.1

So there it is:celeb2: finally got a design that pleased myself and the my lovely wife. Now I just hope the final product will meet our vision.

I also wanted to add that the tank will sit directly on top of the stand without a recessed area for the foam. You'll also notice that there tank will have a 3" ledge that surrounds the tank. I'm anticipating to trim out the ledge with the same quartz found in out kitchen.

Anyways, that's all for now. Any suggestions or recommendations? Please share before it's too late :headwally:

this is gonna look good, nice build

really excited to see where this goes.

amazing so far cant wait to see the finished product

this is going to be one sweet build deff following along

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'm very excited myself.:bounce1:
I've just finished planning out my fish room. I'll post my sketch up tonight when I get home.

In the mean time. Does anyone have any advice on a return pump for me?
I have about 166" of head from the basement to the display. I would also like to run a frag tank in the basement as well.
I'm looking for low wattage as usual.
I guess I could have the display drain into the frag tank since it's going to drain into the sump anyways. Hmmm, I'm not sure which is the better route.
Thoughts???

Darryl v has recommended the genx mak4 pump. Im not sure if it will have enough pressure to run something on the side. I'm going to have to see who carries this pump for now.

Thanks guys.

One more thing, what kind of return (gph) should I shoot for in my 120 display?
I've always ran with 4-5 times display size.

Your thoughts here please.

some advice - make sure you leave enough time for the tank silicone to cure before moving it.....just because "they" want you to pick it up because it is taking up space does not mean it's time to be moved. i learned this the hard way, after picking it up 7 days later than they wanted...

Thanks for the advice. I still have not taken delivery. I think I might wait until I have the stand in place before I get the tank delivered. What happened to your tank anyways? Was it a miracles tank?

Deeznutz... Lol too funny

Well I'm still trying to figure out which pump is going to suit my needs best for the return pump.

Head pressure of 166" or 14' straight up with no fittings at all. My last pump was a Blueline hd55. It did work well, but the wattage was a bit much at 180watts. Looking for something in the 100-120 range.

Any ideas?:confused::confused:

Here's a sketch of my fish room which will be directly below the display tank in the basement. Any advice on the configuration would be great as well.

The back panel separated after about 7-8 months.....I was informed that it was because the silicone has not cured, and not design or workmanship. Specially displeasing was that I was getting pressure to take delivery, and got it a week or two after they wanted to deliver it. It was a Miracles tank of the over $3k variety. The tank was eventually scrapped as I had no place to house 270G worth of SPS during the repair/reconstruction and curing process.

Thanks for the advice. I still have not taken delivery. I think I might wait until I have the stand in place before I get the tank delivered. What happened to your tank anyways? Was it a miracles tank?
